MONTREAL COUNTRY ARTIST BRITTANY KENNELL UNVEILS HER SOPHOMORE ALBUM, PINK COLLAR
Montreal-based singer-songwriter Brittany Kennell releases her awaited sophomore album, Pink Collar, a 10-track collection of personal and uplifting songs she’s been crafting for the last three years. This feisty, independent work empowers women in life and love while learning to be vulnerable and confident in one’s own journey.
Recorded between Nashville and Montreal, this second record follows I Ain’t a Saint (2021) – which made a strong debut on the Canadian country scene. Produced by CCMA Canadian Producer of the Year, Danick Dupelle, and renowned guitarist Ariel Posen, Kennell continues to honor her vintage rock roots while pushing the envelope in commercial country.
Pink Collar seamlessly blends contemporary country pop sounds with vintage rock influences. The songs are upbeat with Shania Twain sass, Sheryl Crow attitude, Maren Morris pop country and the left of center storytelling inspired by the one and only Miranda Lambert.
Brittany Kennell is renowned for her insightful songs about independence, the importance of honesty, and setting boundaries in our relationships and Pink Collar is no exception. On March 8th, in celebration of International Women’s Day, Brittany unveiled the album’s title track. A powerful tribute to the resilience of women who are often overworked and underpaid, yet working twice as hard for recognition and fair compensation.
Pink Collar includes earlier releases “One Drink at a Time,” an encouraging track about taking our time with love. “Wait On You,” a strong-willed contemporary song about protecting one’s energy and not waiting around on someone. Followed by the sisterhood, friendship anthem of the summer, “Together We’re Rich,” and the album kick-off “House and a Dog.”
The songstress reveals five new tracks to complete her sophomore album that tackles personal and relatable themes with genuine authenticity and confidence. The album starts off with “Wrong Horse,” featuring Canadian female powerhouse Kelly Prescott, a song about taking accountability when it comes to dating the wrong guys. The album then wraps with “Years,” another collaborative piece with American country-rock rising star Matt Koziol – a song that speaks on patience and appreciating the timing of life. Covering a vast emotional and musical landscape, “Grand Marquis” is a sassy ode to grannies in their divorce era. “Trophy Wife” is then a reminder to be your own champion while achieving your dreams and lastly, “Good Find” is a sweet reminder that love can find you again a second time around.
Brittany shares,
“Pink Collar is a vibrant album touching base on integrity, vulnerability, independence and confidence when it comes to one’s own journey in life, love and ambitions. This chapter of my life held a lot of self-awareness; learning a lot about who I was and my core values. Post break-up album, I was really searching for myself in my career, my relationships, how to open up to love again and where I saw myself further down the road. I really hope people listen to this album and can find themselves somewhere among the songs – whether they are tired of waiting on someone in love, looking for that second chance, or just wanting a house and a dog – I hope they can stand up for what they want and deserve out of life.”
