Connie Kaldor Returns To Her Roots With New Album, Wide Open Spaces, New Single Out Now!

Regina-born folk legend Connie Kaldor is embracing her western roots with Wide Open Spaces, a powerful and heartfelt new album that pays tribute to the vast landscapes and enduring spirit of the Canadian Prairies. The album will be released on September 5th, 2025, with the lead single “Hitched Together” out now.

Marking her first full-length project entirely devoted to the stories, people, and places of Western Canada, Wide Open Spaces is a return to the heart of what has long defined Connie Kaldor’s songwriting – big-sky imagery, character-rich storytelling, and an unmatched ability to find humour and heart in equal measure.

“It’s basically my western prairie album,” says Kaldor. It shines a light on the part of the world that inspired many of the songs that helped shape my career. Wide Open Spaces is unabashedly Western Canadian.”

Written and released during a time of heightened national reflection, the album explores contemporary issues with grit and grace – from gender disparity and the cost of land to the resilience of small farmers and the impacts of climate change – woven together with traditional western echoes and Connie’s signature warmth.

The album’s first single, “Hitched Together,” is a simple, cinematic country tune that showcases Kaldor’s storytelling brilliance. Rooted in the imagery of Alberta’s changing rural landscape – pawned saddles, sprawling subdivisions, and love that holds firm through it all – the track highlights the quiet resilience of a couple facing loss with grace.

“I admire a straightforward kind of song, and straightforward people who quietly go about working their way through good and bad times,” Connie explains. “At first, I thought this song would be about a cowboy who lost everything, but it’s really about the strength of the woman by his side. There’s not nearly enough songs about the amazing women who are out there ranching, riding, and keeping everything together.”

A musical force for over four decades, Connie Kaldor continues to captivate audiences with her stage presence, humour, and deep emotional insight. A pioneer in women’s music and one of Canada’s most celebrated songwriters, Kaldor is a three-time JUNO Award winner, a member of the Order of Canada, and a recipient of countless accolades, including a recent Lifetime Achievement Award from the Woodstock Folk Festival.
