First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Well, Hi everyone! I’m Beamer Wigley! I’m a country singer and guitar player from Western Canada. I recently had a sound tech come up to me after a show and say, “You’re a lunatic, and I love that,” and I think that’s the best way to get y’all introduced. I love making music so much, it’s the best thing in the world to do, my band is some of my best friends, and we just love connecting with people and putting on a fun show!
Tell us a bit about your recent release.
My latest song Messed Up is a true story that I’m sure most of us have experienced, about being wayyyy too head over heels in love that you start to do some things that are a little bit crazy. This is one of those songs that sat on the shelf for so many years. I wrote it down in Nashville about one of my very first relationships, and we wanted to capture that eager, willing feeling (without sounding too desperate). Once we finished the song, I played it live for probably about 5 years, and it was always so much fun, but other songs were higher on the priority list to put out. So Messed Up had to live a life of waiting, until now!! So excited to finally have it out!
How do you typically go about the songwriting process? Do you have a specific method or creative routine that you follow?
I love being open to any direction the process takes me. Inspiration comes from so many different places that I don’t want to close myself off to any opportunity for something cool to be created! It could start on guitar, as a vocal part, it could be from a scene in a movie. I just like to keep my mind open to anything that could create an idea!
Looking ahead, what are your plans for supporting this new release? Are there any upcoming tours, music videos, or additional content that fans can look forward to in connection with this project?
This has been a summer of shows! Playing this song during the Calgary Stampede and at many rodeos across Alberta has been so much fun, and we’re not done yet! The bucket list show this year is the Country Thunder Alberta Main Stage, which I am so grateful to be able to play on, thanks to Ranchmans and the Rising Star competition they host every year! There will be plenty to see from that show on all my social media!
Looking back on your musical career, is there a particular moment or accomplishment that you consider a turning point or a highlight?
I’ve been so fortunate to have a lot of awesome opportunities in my young career so far. But for me, as someone who grew up listening to Canadian country music and idolizing the talent that we have, the first time I opened for George Canyon was so special. I was twelve years old, had NO clue what I was doing, and was beyond starstruck. I had an amazing time, and looking back, that was sort of the beginning of a lot of the shows I’ve played since.
Last but not least, it’s time to pay it forward. What upcoming band or artist would you recommend your fans check out?
Have to give some love to Martina Dawn! Amazing country artist from Alberta! I’m lucky enough to play lead guitar in her band, and it’s a great experience with great music to play! Highly recommend checking her out if you love ’90s country and dancing tunes!
