The “Pop-Punk Princess” brings the fun back to Edmonton!

Avril Lavigne was in Edmonton last Monday as part of her “greatest hits” tour, with a setlist that did not disappoint!

Unfortunately, I missed the opening band of the night, Girlfriends, so my evening started with a brilliant, energetic set from Fefe Dobson. She brought a really great fun vibe and a stellar performance in which she utilized every inch of the stage, marching back-and-forth, dancing, and throwing out the occasional kick. I don’t know what I was expecting, but she was a ton of fun.

This is the second time I’ve had the opportunity to see Avril in the last two years, and she always impresses. Super energetic, fantastic setlists, and great sound. Her banter between songs sounds forced and kind of odd, like somebody is speaking her lines into her ear. My only other gripe is that her encore is always two sad songs. I don’t get it. You spend the entire set pumping people up and building the energy, just to crater it right at the end. But it is what it is. She’s still a great time and her band is stellar. The cover of Blink 182’s “All the Small Things” was a nice touch, especially since she brought out both her opening acts to help out.
