WITH “WHAT I GOT”, NASHVILLE’S JUSTINE BLANCHET ACCEPTS THE SOMBER REALITY OF HER BROKEN HEART AFTER A FRACTURED RELATIONSHIP
Canadian country artist Justine Blanchet is celebrating the official music video release for her current single, “What I Got”.
Written by Blanchet, “What I Got” is the artist’s first collaboration with Nashville-based producer Ryan Rossebo (Trey Lewis, Leanne Pearson) and marks her second single of 2024. The single arrives on the heels of Blanchet being named to the Elite 50 of CBC Music’s Searchlight 2024. The music video was produced by Tanner and DeAnna Roman in Nashville.
Powered by splashy keyboard plucks and a somber pop essence paired with modern country touches of banjo, guitar, and drums, “What I Got” follows Justine’s hard-hitting vocals through an introspective self-examination following a fractured relationship.
Justine says,
“This song was inspired by a challenging relationship that ended with a lot of heartbreak. As I wrote it, I caught myself thinking about how his next relationship would compare with ours, leading to a lot of inner conflict about the somber reality of what had happened between us and how I should feel about the future. At its core, ‘What I Got’ is about accepting exactly what you got from your own relationship – without illusions – and moving on.”
Originally from the Montreal area, Justine has amassed a combined tally of over 1 million Spotify streams and YouTube views across her musical body of work – including 2019’s “Strong” (175K Spotify streams), 2021’s “Get Out of the Mud” (#4 on CBC Country/SiriusXM), 2022’s “Hard to Love” (75K Spotify streams and 150K YouTube views), and 2023’s “Heart Less” (150K YouTube views) and “Cheap Sunglasses” (added to SiriusXM’s Top of the Country) – the latter two of which were featured on both CMT.com and CMT Australia.
After a performance at Bluebird Café set in motion an eventual move to Nashville, Justine has settled nicely into her current Music City surroundings – completing her first EP (2023’s “Don’t Ask Me to Dance”) and performing at local Nashville venues as well as Loretta Lynn’s Ranch in nearby Hurricane Mills.
With “What I Got”, Justine is lending a voice to heartbroken souls and proudly displaying what she’s got as a rising Nashville artist and songwriter.
