ZOOMIES – Excuse Me. releases new album, The Light

Canadian Indie Outfit Excuse Me. Deliver The Light

Today, Indie-alternative outfit and Guelph, Ontario natives, Excuse Me. are excited to unveil their sophomore LP The Light. After several years in the making, The Light is a culmination of the ongoing narrative introduced on last year’s I: Capsizing and II: Left Behind. The album tells the whole story of their protagonist, broken by failed relationships in a crumbling world, and his journey in search of a better life on the coast.

“This album nearly destroyed us,” shares lead singer Aleks Liskauskas. “After dealing with an eviction by shady landlords, being separated by lockdowns, losing 3 nearly finished mixes to a faulty hard-drive, and just general passionate in-fighting about how to make each song sound exactly right. It’s been an incredibly taxing process, but it’s finally finished and is unequivocally the best thing we’ve ever written.”

A perfect distillation of the album’s conflicting emotions, the title track “The Light” is both a lament and a song of hope. It touches on the album’s recurring themes of contributing to an indifferent system, of feeling less-than; but this time, with a powerful hope of redemption.

“I wrote the lyrics for ‘The Light’ during the lockdown in 2020,” Liskauskas explains. “When you isolate yourself, you become acutely aware of all the connections in your life, and I found myself thinking about how COVID was just one struggle among many that we share in this modern world. I guess I hold on to hope of a deeper connection within humanity, both towards each other and the planet, And the thought of that possibility alone feels like a break in the sky, when I’m held by the summer.”
