Indie rock trio Alcoves makes your movie moment soundtrack with “Raining In July”
Alcoves is an indie-rock band based in Victoria, BC, Canada. The band’s sound is a seamless blend of pop production reminiscent of The Japanese House and The 1975 with the charm of DIY indie rock.
Their carefree, debut single, “Raining In July,” is about enjoying being young; going for a drive, picking up your partner or your friends and just enjoying life, free of worry. Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Hey, we’re Alcoves, a band based in Victoria, BC. We formed remotely during the pandemic as a few friends sharing ideas over the internet, when we were able to get into the same room we rented a cabin and wrote and recorded our first few songs. We patiently worked on these songs for a couple of years and are finally ready to share them and our band with the world.
Tell us a bit about your most recent release.
Raining In July is our debut single. It’s a love letter to the carefree romanticism of youth set against a 90s-tinged groove and collage of guitars. We felt like this was the perfect song to introduce our band because it highlights a lot of our key elements and aesthetic.
Where do you tend to pull inspiration from when writing?
Our inspirations come from the music we like and our general life experiences. Typically we’ll collect some simple ideas, loops and share them with each other and pick the ones that excite all of us the most. We’ll then flesh out that idea and try to take inspiration from that idea itself, and try and figure out what that song wants itself to be.
Do you have any upcoming shows you’d like to tell us about?
Nothing we can announce yet but we’re looking at playing our first shows this fall so keep an eye out!
What’s your goal for 2023?
We have an EP that we’ll be releasing this fall with a couple more singles leading up to its release. Our goal is to get this EP out and share our music with as many people as possible. This will include playing our first few shows. We cannot wait to play these songs live.
