Brooklyn Doran

ZOOMIES – Brooklyn Doran recently released new album, Fixer Upper

Brooklyn Doran

Canadian singer-songwriter Brooklyn Doran fully embraces the artist she’s become with the release of her latest album, Fixer Upper.

The eight-track collection chronicles Doran’s growth not only as an artist but in her own life. Showcasing her sonic evolution from her indie-folk roots to a decidedly more grunge-tinged, alt-pop sound, the stories behind each track recount the pivotal moments of transitioning out of her formative years into a new season of life and love. Reflecting on moving on from the past in her more folk-leaning tunes such as “Michigan State” and “One Way Ticket,” Doran also touches on points of nostalgia with odes to her past such as “This Town Won’t Miss You,” a nod to her hometown, and “Tomorrow Never Comes,” written in memory of her dear friend. While beginning to start a new life with “Relics,” Doran’s definitive transition shines in tracks such as “Fuck That Guy” and the recent single “Wasted My Twenties” as her confident new sound carries her into the next era of her career.

We started recording this album before the pandemic and then the world shut down. Some of the singles were released in 2019 and 2020, whereas other tracks from this record like “Relics” and “Michigan State” were fully recorded before the pandemic, but we were able to be revisited and reshaped in the studio years later. It is a unique experience to be able to sit with these recordings for so long, and then to be able to go back and fix them up,” Brooklyn shares. “I guess that is why Fixer Upper feels like the best title for this collection of songs. As I grew and found myself more as an artist, I was able to let this album grow with me. I guess you could say that I feel like a bit of a fixer upper myself. This record represents both who I was then, and who I am now.
