We caught up with Ontario’s Ken Yates to chat about what an honour it is to receive two nominations at the Canadian Folk Music Awards and his performance at the Songs & Songwriters Concert on April 1.
Ken is nominated for Contemporary Album of the Year for his latest album, Cerulean, and for Contemporary Singer of the Year.

First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?
I’m Ken Yates, an indie-folk artist originally from London, ON, now living in the town of Creemore, Ontario.
Tell us a bit about your newest release.
Cerulean is my fourth album, produced by Jim Bryson (my third album with Jim). It was written/recorded during the pandemic and was primarily recorded remotely due to lockdowns.
You are a double nominee at the Canadian Folk Music Awards. How does it feel to be nominated, not once, but twice?
It’s always a huge honour to be recognized, but especially for this album, which means so much to me.
You will perform at the Songs and Stories – Songwriter Nominee Showcase Concert on March 31. What can attendees expect from you at this event?
I’ll be playing a few songs from the new album and sharing a bit of the inspiration behind them.
Do you have any other upcoming shows you want to tell us about?
I’ll be playing at Grassroots Festival in Ottawa on April 21!
