FRANKIE FLOWERS unveils new single, “BAD DREAM”

After an abysmal breakup and many shifts working coat checks at a Toronto concert venue, FRANKIE FLOWERS felt the sudden urge to use her voice as her main instrument and began writing and creating alternative music as a release. Merging her love for dark-wave and post-punk music to create a genre-bending sound, FRANKIE urges you to escape reality and experience the unknown.

The dynamic new single, “BAD DREAM,” is the product of the feelings that follow upon waking from a vivid nightmare… questioning what’s real vs. what’s not and how scattered the mind seems to get. The whispered line, “We’re all gonna turn to dust in the end,” sounds like a secret and feeds into the vibe of existential dread.

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

I’m an indie/alternative artist living in Waterloo, Ontario. I’ve lived here for most of my entire life. I’d spent a lot of my life working for other people… and I think that I realized it was slowly driving me insane – so now I make music.

Tell us a bit about your most recent release.

“BAD DREAM” is the product of the feelings that follow when I wake up from a vivid nightmare—questioning what’s real vs. what’s not and how existential my mind tends to get.

Where do you tend to pull inspiration from when writing?

I pull inspiration from everything that I experience every day – mostly pertaining to my relationships with others. I’ve been super into reading classic novels lately, so sometimes, when I’m in a writing slump, I’ll try to throw in references to the books that I’m reading.

Do you have any upcoming shows you’d like to tell us about?

I have a few shows that I’m super excited about coming up. I’m playing Canadian Music Week in June, and they just reached out to me to see if I was down to play a ‘One’s To Watch at CMW’ showcase in April, so I’m stoked to play that!  I’m also playing NXNE. I had a super fun time playing that last year, so I’m stoked about that as well.

What’s your goal for 2023?

My goal is to keep an open mind and go with the flow. Opportunities present themselves at the most random times, so who knows what could happen.
