Midnight Genius are on “High Alert” with their new single
Vancouver, BC-based alternative R&B duo Jonathan Maniraho and Kathryn Masters, best known as Midnight Genius, have recently unveiled their single, “High Alert.”
The single is about the different communication styles, especially when it comes to conflict or disagreements.
The duo shares,
“Honesty and transparency should be at the center of any relationship and you shouldn’t have to feel like you’re continuously walking on eggshells or moving on ‘high alert’ out of fear of hurting each other’s feelings.”
The duo has over half a million streams on Spotify alone and has been featured on numerous Spotify-curated playlists such as “Just Vibing,” “Fresh Finds” and “Mood Ring.”

First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Hi! Our names are Jonathan and Kathryn and we’re an Alternative/R&B duo that goes by Midnight Genius. We’re both singers, songwriters, and producers. We’re currently wrapping up our 3rd EP, which is set to release in Spring 2023.
How did you come up with the name Midnight Genius?
We were in the studio experimenting with different sounds and came up with something that we felt was genius. It also just happened to be midnight when we checked the time. Midnight Genius was born.
You have unveiled your latest single, “High Alert.” What can you tell us about the writing process behind the track?
The moment we heard the intro to the beat, we instantly felt connected to it. We fell in love with the uptempo, bouncy, and Latin inspired production. This type of production was something new and exciting for us which made the writing process flow organically.

What’s your favourite thing about being an artist in Vancouver?
Our studio is located in downtown Vancouver, and unlike other conventional studios, we have floor-to-ceiling windows with direct views of the mountains. The scenery here is very inspiring!
