Hi, I am Senny. My stage name is Senny Rolls, and I am a singer-songwriter from Toronto, Canada, with a Chadian background.
My favourite hobby is writing songs, which I’ve been doing since I was 12. One of my most significant purposes is to connect with people worldwide through music, spread love and good energy, and leave a positive, long-lasting impact on people’s lives.
“Midnight Drive” blends R&B with elements of your Chadian heritage. How do you incorporate your background into your music?
My background is characterized by the sound and emotions that arise in my voice, which I use as an instrument. My Chadian heritage is invaluable, and it fuels my mission to positively impact and inspire people to overcome and become who they are meant to be. I have more music on the way that incorporates soulful sounds from Chad and Africa, and I am looking forward to sharing it with the world.
Can you walk us through the creative process behind “Midnight Drive”? How did the collaboration with Kosheii come about?
The song came about very organically. I was in the studio with Kosheii recording my previous single, “Way More,” and the session had 30 minutes left.
After “Way More” was completed, we decided to utilize the remaining time to work on a new record. I was freestyling melodies and Kosheii asked me to tap the tempo I was feeling in the moment. It was 90 BPM. That was it. We locked in the tempo and we started layering drums, the melody. By the end of the session, a significant part of “Midnight Drive” was made. I then took the project files home, where I found the perfect creative space to finish writing the record and making some arrangements. A few weeks later, we regrouped to record the vocals, and the magic was made.
Your journey in music started at a young age with a church choir. How has that early experience shaped your musical style and aspirations today?
The church choir is why I discovered my voice and love for singing. The love and appreciation people showed me meant everything to me, and little did they know that was a life-shaping moment. I knew I wanted to be a singer and be applauded for great music that makes people feel positive energy.
That experience inspired the soulfulness in my musical style and the importance of pouring my emotions into my music. I believe that feelings and melodies are unspoken words that will resonate with people regardless of language.
Looking ahead, what’s next for Senny Rolls after the release of “Midnight Drive”? Can you share any teasers about the follow-up single or future projects?
I am working on my next single, “Say Less,” and I plan to release it in late October. This one is an exciting R&B record with heavy synths, and I talk about being grateful to feel loved and knowing that someone has your back and that they are the one. Stay tuned!
