First off care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Hi! I’m Brooke MacArthur, a country singer-songwriter from Prince Edward Island, Canada. I’m from an island known for its red cliffs, beautiful beaches, and some pretty incredible summers. I’ve been singing and performing for as long as I can remember, but I truly fell in love with songwriting during my university days. After graduating, I decided to take a leap of faith and pursue music, making my way to Nashville to record my first original songs.
When I’m not performing or writing songs, I’m also a teacher, teaching Language Arts and Music to middle school students. I love being able to share my passion for creativity in the classroom while continuing to pursue my own music career. Since starting my journey as an artist, I’ve been fortunate to perform across Atlantic Canada, release new music, and keep chasing this dream one song at a time.
Tell us a bit about your recent release.
My latest single is inspired by a relationship that looked completely unbreakable from the outside but fell apart because of one life-changing mistake. The story actually came from something a close friend experienced. She had everything going for her, but the person she loved didn’t realize what he had until it was too late. I think a lot of people can relate to that feeling of watching something good slip away, and I wanted to capture both the heartbreak and the strength that comes from moving forward.
Walk us through your creative progress when creating music.
Every song starts a little differently, but most of the time it begins with a melody that randomly pops into my head or a topic that I have to write down in my notes. Once I have an idea or theme, I’ll grab my guitar and start building the song around it. I usually write the verses first which tell a story, then find a chorus that really drives home the main message. Sometimes I’ll use instrumental tracks online for inspiration, and other times it’s just me, my guitar, and a Google Doc or notebook. The best songs usually come together when I stop overthinking and let the story lead the way.
Now that the music is out, what does the ‘road ahead’ look like? Beyond tours and videos, what’s one ‘bucket list’ goal you hope to achieve with this release?
I’m excited to keep getting this song in front of as many people as possible through live shows, radio, and streaming. One bucket-list goal would be to hear fans singing every word back to me from the crowd. As a songwriter, there’s nothing cooler than watching a song that started in my living room or bedroom become part of someone else’s story. That’s the dream.
Every artist has a ‘lightbulb moment’ where things just clicked. Looking back, what’s the one performance or milestone that made you realize, ‘Okay, this is what I was meant to do’?
Opening for Steven Lee Olsen last spring was definitely one of those moments. I had the chance to perform in several cities across Atlantic Canada, introduce my original music to brand-new audiences, and really feel like I was building something. Another huge milestone has been performing at the Cavendish Beach Music Festival. I went to that festival every summer growing up, so standing on that stage not once, but twice was a surreal full-circle moment. Those experiences reminded me exactly why I do this.

I would add Morgan Griffiths. He’s got an incredible country voice, writes great songs, and has been making a real impact at Canadian country radio. I think he’s someone people should definitely have on their radar!

You can catch me next at the Tyne Valley Oyster Festival in PEI, and I couldn’t be more excited! It’s one of the biggest events of the summer, with over 1,200 tickets sold, and I’ll be co-headlining alongside my talented friend, Brad Milligan.
