Tandem – Five Questions With

Tandem Unveils New Single, “Replay”

Grey-Bruce County, Ontario-based country duo, Tandem is made up of Sam Glasier and Keith Hundt.

Leaning on their experiences as small-town kids who know a thing or two about dirt roads and bush parties, Tandem is a staple in the local music scene, playing local pubs, outdoor concert series’, and the Sauble Night Beach Party.

The duo unveiled their debut single, “Replay,” before their summer of shows, including opening for Owen Riegling at Cargill Homecoming and sharing the stage with Tebey and Eric Ethridge in Sauble Beach.

First off care to introduce yourself to our readers?

We are Tandem, a country music duo from Grey-Bruce, Ontario, and have been playing together for 13 years since grade 8 graduation!

Tell us a bit about your recent release.

“Replay” is a fun, energetic song that fits the vibe of our small-town gigs. It is a song that everyone can relate to in some aspect and we find it showcases who we are as musicians well. We thought it was the perfect choice for our debut single.

How do you typically go about the songwriting process? Do you have a specific method or creative routine that you follow?

Typically, we write separately pulling on different things/events/moments that have happened in both of our lives. We then combine some of our ideas or put our heads together to finish a song. That is how Replay was created. Lately, we have had a few songwriting sessions where we work together on a song from scratch. Songs sometimes start with an idea or a phrase, sometimes they come from a cool chord progression or riff. Each one is different!

Looking ahead, what are your plans for supporting this new release? Are there any upcoming tours, music videos, or additional content that fans can look forward to in connection with this project?

We look forward to another busy year of gigs in the area, including a few big ones at the Cargill Homecoming and Sauble Beach Night Party. Releasing our first single and having the credibility to say we are on Spotify and iTunes gives us more content to promote and sets us up to continue to play bigger gigs. We are planning to do some more recording this year and hopefully release a few more songs.

Looking back on your musical career, is there a particular moment or accomplishment that you consider a turning point or a highlight?

There have been a few for us! The first was Keith singing for the first time in Grade 11 for parts of Springsteen by Eric Church. This started a unique sound that we continue with today, having balancing harmonies that have become a staple of our performances.

The next would be when we were asked to play at the Hanover Fair in 2021. This was our first gig that was called a “concert” and motivated us to bring on a drummer for the set. Being able to meet sound techs and let the community know we can play band gigs opened the door for us to add a bass guitarist to the group and open for established names in country music. We are playing a dance at Cargill Homecoming and are back at the Sauble Beach Night Party this summer.

Last but not least, it’s time to pay it forward, what upcoming band or artist would you recommend your fans check out?

He’s no longer upcoming but we need to just keep pumping Owen Riegling’s tires. He played at Keith’s wedding reception while he was still affordable, and we all went to the same high school. We still remember him taking the stage at Walkerton Homecoming in 2016 on his own and couldn’t believe how good he was 8 years ago. He is super personable and has offered his time to us to share his knowledge on creating and recording music. He has all the talent in the world and the sky is the limit for that guy! If anyone hasn’t checked him out yet, go listen to his music! Our whole county is proud of him.
