Genre: Rock

Montreal’s Townes has unveiled his eight-track EP, Ghostwriters, with an accompanying short film of the same name, “Ghostwriters” tells the story of two songwriters who are kidnapped and tortured in order to write a comeback hit for a popstar going through a public scandal.

The EP features two previous singles, “Oh No” and “Shadows,” as well as an Intro and Outro, along with four unreleased tracks.

The title track, “Ghostwriters,” is a powerful journey through the artist’s growth and struggles, marked by reflective and sincere lyrics. Acknowledging past imperfections with a strong commitment to authentic self-expression, as stated in “I wrote a few songs way back in the day,” the song becomes a resolute anthem against ghostwriters in its anthemic chorus. This stands as a bold declaration of the artist’s unwavering dedication to creative integrity. Layers of depth are added with anticipation for new songs and a desire for intimate connection, while the bridge introduces a raw vulnerability, expressing genuine fears and a plea for solitude.

“Streams” presents a bold and self-aware commentary on the contemporary music scene, tackling the challenges artists face in the digital age. The chorus sharply critiques the obsession with streaming numbers, questioning the true value of chasing trends for financial gain. References to following rules, ghostwriters, playlists, and algorithms highlight the commercialization of art and the compromises artists may confront. The song’s honesty, clever wordplay, and thematic depth make it a compelling addition to the genre, prompting listeners to contemplate the genuine essence of artistic expression within the pressures of the modern music landscape.

Overall, the previously released singles, serving as the EP’s pillars, are likely to leave a lasting impact, while the rest of the EP is a well-thought-out collection, designed to guide the listener through a seamless and captivating musical journey.
