It’s a great time to be a lover of French music in Montreal! After Gims and Dadju at the Bell Center last month, rapper/singer Lomepal brought the party to a packed Place Bell tonight!
After running all the summer festivals in Europe this summer, tonight was the first night of the Fall leg of the tour, with two sold-out Laval dates before heading back to mostly sold-out dates in Europe! Lomepal’s last visit in town dates back to MTelus in 2019, so needless to say the packed crowd was excited about this long-awaited reunion!
The show started with Auburn, the music and the lights packing a punch and setting the bar high. For the following hour and a half, Antoine and his musicians stole the show with a highly-energetic performance. It’s hard to put Lomepal in one specific genre, as he alternates between rapping and singing some deep-cutting lyrics, alternating between the persona of a soft crooner and a tough rocker. The audience absolutely ate it up, as they sang along to newer tracks like Mauvais Ordre (from his last album of the same name), Yeux Disent, Ma Cousin, Trop Beau, Tee, and of course the explosive finale to the beautifully gut-wrenching track Decrescendo.
It’s always such a treat when French artists cross the ocean to perform in Montreal, and the fans gave it right back to Lomepal last night with a super special show.
