Mallory Johnson invites fans to celebrate with her cheeky new single, “Married”
Newfoundland-raised, Nashville-based artist Mallory Johnson jumps into summer with her new single, “Married.” The track was co-written by fellow Canadian artists Patricia Conroy and Jason Blaine and was produced by Dolly Parton’s Grammy and Oscar Award-nominated producer, Kent Wells.
A song for all the bridesmaids who dream of a wedding of their own, but without the commitment of marriage, the empowering track celebrates independence and foraging your own path.
“I’m the kind of girl who has a closet full of bridesmaid dresses. As fun as it is to ‘always be the bridesmaid” I sometimes fantasize about what it would be like to be the one wearing white rather than dusty rose,” Mallory shares. “I haven’t yet found my person or ‘the one,’ so I wanted to write a singles’ anthem for all the folks like me who aren’t ready for marriage but would say ‘I do’ to the party.”
“Married’ follows Mallory’s recent collaboration with West Coast duo Twin Kennedy on their shared single, “Wise Woman.” They also shared a powerful music video directed by Cecil Johnson and took home Music Video of the Year at the 2021 MusicNL Awards, as well as Fans’ Choice Video of the Year at the 2022 East Coast Music Awards.

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Hey! I’m Mallory Johnson, a country music artist, and singer/songwriter originally from Newfoundland but based in Nashville!
Tell us more about your recent release.
“Married” is a wedding song for the singles!
I’m the kind of girl who is always the bridesmaid. I’ve planned the bachelorette parties, I’ve watched a lot of friends say “yes” to the dress, and I’ve given a toast or two, but I’ve often dreamt of what it’d be like to switch up the roles and be a bride for the day. I haven’t yet found “the one,” so I wanted to write a song for folks like me who may not be ready for marriage but would definitely say “I do” to the party.
When I brought this idea to a zoom session with Patricia Conroy and Jason Blaine, they were totally on board (even though they are both happily married, haha). We had a lot of fun writing it, and I hope everyone enjoys listening to it!
Where do you tend to pull inspiration from when writing?
Most of my inspiration comes from my personal experiences. If I don’t relate to the lyrics I’m singing, then I find that the audience doesn’t connect to it as well. That’s not to say that every word in every song I write is 100% my story, but there are pieces of me weaved in. I’ve learned that the more vulnerable and honest you are, the more fans believe you and relate to what you’re saying.
Do you have any upcoming shows or festivals you’d like to tell us about?
Right now, I’m one of eight semi-finalists in SiriusXM’s Top of the Country! If fans vote me through to the Top 3, there’s a chance you’ll see me at a big festival this summer and Country Music Week in Calgary! I’m also planning an East Coast album release tour in the fall 🙂
What’s your goal for 2022?
My goal is to release lots of new music! I haven’t released a solo project since 2019, and I’ve been working on a full-length record for a while now. I’m excited to finally get that out there!
