Vancouver, BC-based singer-songwriter, Kaeli has unveiled a video for her single, “Secret”. The video was made with the support of Creative BC and the Province of British Columbia and was filmed in Vancouver, BC at 604 Records.
Kaeli shares,
“It was a labour of love! We had a small budget and could only shoot for one day in the studio, which meant everyone had to be on their A-game in order to keep up with the numerous lighting, wardrobe and hair and makeup changes. I honestly don’t know how we did it other than there was a lot of coffee, Red Bull and passion on set that day.”

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
I’m a Vancouver singer-songwriter who lives where the forest-filled North Shore mountains meet the edge of the ocean. You’re likely to find me singing and composing in my bedroom studio at all hours…unless I’m running woodland trails, snowboarding powder, or snowshoeing with friends in the backcountry. My passion for making music and love of being outdoors might seem like an unusual mix, but for me, “fusion” is where it all comes together – especially in music.
Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.
I love exploring new sounds and blending genres. Some of my songs are more dark-synth-beat-driven and others are stripped-back ballads featuring intimate vocals and piano. I enjoy writing on my own and also co-writing with other musicians. My songs usually take shape at the end of whatever emotional journey I’ve been on and start with me sitting down at the piano letting whatever feelings I have morph into melodies. Then the words come.
Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?
I have some shows in the works but still confirming dates. Stay tuned. I love singing, so my live performances either feature vocals with stripped-back piano for acoustic ballads, or I sing and play keyboards with backing tracks to round out the sound for my upbeat, electro-pop songs. I also sometimes have a guitarist join me on stage.
If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?
I released my “Secret” 5-track EP in November, so I’d recommend listening to either “Round 2” or “Freedom” (feat. Alex Helton). Both are empowerment songs. “Round 2” is about finding and channeling your inner strength to take on whatever powers-at-be that are standing in the way. And “Freedom” is a song that fuses a bunch of genres and features the brilliant rapping of my co-writer, Alex Helton. It was such a fun collaboration from start to finish, and I am in love with his rich voice!!
Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?
There are so many Canadian bands I love. Currently, I’ve been listening to FM Attack, Ria Mae and Alvvays. And of course, the usual suspects like The Weekend and Drake.
