Moncton’s Mud City Music Festival takes place from October 1 to 5, 2019. The festival showcases some of the best local, national, and international artists in a variety of musical genres.
Today we chatted with New Brunswick’s own rock band, Which Witch is Which.
The fifth installment of Mud City Music Festival takes place in Moncton, NB from October 1-5, how does it feel to be a part of this festival?
It always feels good…. this festival is growing rapidly and is getting better every year. For Moncton bands it’s huge….. a chance to play with some of your favourite bands and catch a bunch of rad shows and meet a bunch of new rock n roll loving folks….. always a bonus.
Have you taken part in Mud City Music Festival before? If so, what is your favourite memory?
Yes, I have hahaha….. all 3 of the bands I play in have played….. Iron Giant reformed to do a show a couple of years ago… The Monoxide’s played with The Headstones which was rad….. we toured together back in 97 so it was killer to catch up and shoot the shit and Which Witch Is Which played last year for our album release. All shows were amazing…..
The lineup for this year features some music icons, as well as some newcomers, is there anyone specific you are anxious to check out?
Red Fang for one and Shadowy Men for sure…… Ian Blurton’ s Future Now is what I am super stoked for….. his new album is insane…. can’t stop listening to it.
Is there a difference in preparation for an Autumn festival than with a Summer festival?
Well, it’s a bit more of a push to get out there….. as for bands it’s much easier. It’s hard for bands to commit in the summer when so many festivals are happening everywhere……. Oct is better….bands are ready to hit the spots that have been forgotten during the summer…. unless you’re a lucky festival that has the power behind it.
How do you go about preparing a setlist for a festival, compared to a regular full show?
For us it’s no different…. we just go up and do what we do. I’m sure the headliners add special songs or play longer etc…. it’s a one-off so make it memorable I guess lol
For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your performance?
It’s high energy rock n roll dance party.
If you had to recommend only one song for a new listener, which would you suggest?
I would probably suggest “ Shot Down”. It’s always my go-to when people ask. That or “Heart Discarded”… it’s got a rad Cult type riff in it. But in the end, I would say listen to them all.
Now that the festival season is coming to a close, what’s up next for you?
Well once this is done…. put out four new songs via internet, etc… then do that all over again a few months later….. the lull in between albums can be frustrating so this is a way to keep the band fresh and in people’s minds every few months or once a season etc…… just put it all out there…… and hit the stage. No sense being stagnant cause this boy is getting fat and old hahaha.
