Montreal, QC-based duo, Jitensha is made up of Canadian musician, David Martinez and US-born artist, Erin Rose Hubbard. The two have released their new album, Periscope.
According to the band:
“‘Periscope’ reflects the point of view of a keen yet dejected soul – an outcast introvert looking through a window onto a modern world, fighting the urge to shut the curtain, and reaching out with the hope of being understood. Overall the album is upbeat and peppy. It has pretty, catchy melodies that hook the listener into the lyrics that are insightful and poignant. We hope the music conveys the feeling that a positive bedrock can keep you grooving even through life’s sad moments.”

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
We’re Jitensha, an indie garage pop-rock duo – a mix of 1950s vocal harmony and modern grunginess, sweet yet angsty. We call Montréal home.
Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.
One of us usually brings a bit of poetry, melody or chords to the table. Working together, we see where it goes from there. We really value interesting melodies that retain a pop sensibility – a “hookiness.” Our lyrics often explore empathy, self-determination and social/environmental issues.
Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?

If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?
“Sea of Numbers” the second single on out just-released album Periscope. It’s a fun and catchy, yet contemplative song that serves as a good median for the other music on the album. Plus, there’s a music video! <>
Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?
This year we discovered the rock band Zeus. They are so much fun and we saw them live at Springtide Music Festival. Their music is very imaginative and just makes the heart feel good!
Also, our friends in Cape Cartel make awesome music. Their new EP is coming out later this month and we can’t wait to hear it.
