Ontario alt-country artist D.B. Tait explores loss, fading connections, and the passage of time on his latest single ahead of his 2027 debut album, Losing Time.

Prince Edward County, Ontario singer-songwriter D.B. Tait continues building anticipation for his 2027 debut solo album, Losing Time, with the release of his heartfelt new single, “Where Are You Going Now.” Blending traditional country influences with atmospheric Americana, the track explores the emotional weight of watching someone slowly drift away.

Inspired by his grandfather’s experience with dementia, “Where Are You Going Now” captures feelings of love, loss, and the uncertainty that comes with changing relationships. Featuring soaring vocals, warm acoustic instrumentation, and layers of steel guitar, the song offers a deeply personal glimpse into Tait’s evolving sound.

The addition of Allison Burke’s supporting vocals creates a rich, choir-like atmosphere, complementing Tait’s expressive delivery and the song’s reflective tone.

D.B. Tait Where Are You Going Now – A Song About Loss and Connection

“I started to write ‘Where Are You Going Now’ a handful of years ago when my grandfather was going through dementia, and seeing the brilliant man he was begin to slip away,” Tait explains.

“Like many of the songs I write, it’s not meant to be specific to just that, but to any relationship that you feel drifting away.”

Musically, the single leans into traditional country territory, incorporating steel guitar and acoustic textures that reflect Tait’s growing connection to roots-based music.

“Musically, it is probably the closest thing to a traditional country song that I have ever written, at least instrumentally, with lots of steel guitar and a focus on more acoustic sounds.”

A Personal Approach to Recording

Like his previous 2026 singles, “Before You Go” and “Nothing To Lose,” the new track was largely recorded in Tait’s home studio, where he handled most of the guitar and vocal performances himself.

Additional contributions came from longtime collaborators Ian Roantree and Mitch Cory of Kojak, while fellow Prince Edward County musician and Littleknown Records head David James Allen handled the mixing.

The intimate recording process complements the song’s emotional themes, allowing the warmth of the instrumentation and Tait’s vocals to take centre stage.

Looking Ahead to Losing Time

Since co-founding Kojak in 2018, Tait has developed a parallel solo career that allows him to explore deeply personal subjects, from relationships and mortality to breaking destructive cycles and reclaiming control over one’s life.

His forthcoming album, Losing Time, draws inspiration from traditional folk, country blues, roots rock, and Americana, creating a sound that moves between delicate acoustic ballads and shimmering folk rock.

“Leaning into roots rock, alt-country type of stuff has been fun, and it feels like a natural place for me to be,” Tait shares. “What I love about a lot of that music are the imperfections and the humanity of it all. The lack of polish makes it feel real.”

With “Where Are You Going Now,” D.B. Tait offers another meaningful preview of Losing Time, an album that promises to explore the complexities of life, relationships, and the moments that shape who we become.
