International Soul Sensation Paula Letang Shines on New Single “Giving You More”
Celebrated Canadian singer, songwriter, and producer Paula Letang announces the release of her latest single, “Giving You More,” a vibrant exploration of emotional generosity that further cements her status as a premiere voice in modern soul. Produced by Letang herself and co-written with Kwanele Sifunda (Khwezi), the track arrives as a masterclass in genre-fluidity, seamlessly blending vintage grooves with a contemporary, self-assured lyricism.
“Giving You More” captures a definitive moment of artistic evolution for Letang, who drew from a subconscious well of reflection to craft the song’s narrative. Moving beyond the standard tropes of the genre, the track dives into the quiet internal dialogue of love and the delicate balance of what we choose to offer others.
“My hope is that listeners hear it and see themselves in it,” Letang shares. “Especially if they’ve ever wondered what their role is in the love they’re in”.
The single’s power lies in its relatable, grounded intimacy, featuring standout lines that resonate with universal truth:
“So, I’m giving you more than I did before / Didn’t really think that I had much more / You found the key to unlock the door”.
This lyrical depth is paired with a sophisticated production that reflects Letang’s diverse musical upbringing in the Commonwealth of Dominica and Canada, where early experiences with guitar and piano helped form her signature sound.
Media interest in Letang has intensified following her consistent international chart success, including Top 30 placements on the The UK Soul Chart for “Sunshine” and “Bring it Back Around,” alongside a #1 hit on the Radio Indie Alliance Chart with “Do Me Right”. “Giving You More” represents a bold step forward in this trajectory, offering a fresh story hook through its cross-continental production – recorded between the soulful hubs of Toronto and the rhythmic influences of her heritage.
Beyond the studio, Letang remains a pillar of the cultural community as a two-time ByBlacks.com Radio Personality of the Year. As the creator and host of the All About The Funk radio show and the founder of the Toronto Funk & Soul Music Festival, she has dedicated her career to nurturing local talent and celebrating the timeless genres that inform her own work.
Hi, Paula! Good to meet you! Care to introduce yourself to the readers for those not familiar with your music?
Hi, I’m Paula Letang — an independent soul artist who loves classic R&B, funk, and storytelling. My music blends soulful grooves with pop sensibilities, and I often write about love, connection, and the joy of people coming together.
I was born in the Commonwealth of Dominica in the Caribbean and grew up in St. Catharines, Ontario, soaking in Caribbean rhythms at home and R&B, funk, and pop on the radio. In my twenties, I reconnected with the French Creole Caribbean rhythms—Zouk & Kompa—and formed the band Levitasyon with my husband. Together, we released two CDs celebrating that sound through Mazouk Music Productions.
These influences blend naturally in my music today — soulful at the core, shaped by the music and cultures that have influenced me along the way.
All of that to say that my music has definitely evolved over the years. These days, I love exploring neo-soul, classic retro R&B grooves, and funk. I’ve been lucky to have some amazing opportunities and even some chart success — my breakthrough song Sunshine, and the fun, 90’s inspired track DJ Spin That Song Again, which pays tribute to some of the funk and soul legends I love. Working with writers and composers both locally and internationally has been a real gift.
Bringing all these influences together lets me make music that feels authentic, and connected to who I am as an artist.
Growing up between Dominica and Canada, how do those two worlds show up differently in this song?
Both worlds shaped my music in different ways. In Dominica and Canada, my dad’s favorites — calypso and country music — were part of our daily soundtrack. That’s where I learned the storytelling power of a song and how melodies can carry both the story and the emotion.
In Canada, I discovered folk, funk, soul, and pop, which shaped how those stories are delivered: — through groove, instrumentation, and modern feel. You can hear it in a number of my songs, and Giving You More is an example of how both worlds come together in the song and its delivery.
As a radio host and festival founder, you uplift other artists. How does nurturing community influence the way you approach love and partnership in your own life?
My approach to love and partnership really guides how I show up for other artists. Relationships teach you patience, compromise, and how to celebrate someone’s growth while giving them space — and I bring that same mindset to the funk and soul community.
Hosting All About the Funk and creating a festival isn’t just about giving artists a stage; it’s about helping them connect, creating networking opportunities and letting them shine. In both love and music, it’s about supporting growth and giving people the space to be their best selves.
Is Giving You More about surrender — or about strength?
Giving You More isn’t about surrender. It’s about strength.
It’s about knowing what you want and knowing what you’re willing to give. That clarity comes from experience and growth. When you are sure about both, you give because you choose to — because you’ve decided it’s worth the risk.
Letting someone in? That’s power. Not controlling power, but the power of your own choice – the power to open the door and give your heart because you’re confident in that decision.
The strength is being able to say, I can give more because I want to.
So for me, there’s no surrender. It’s all strength, intention, and choice.
What do you want to share with listeners right now?
These days, I’m mostly hanging out in the studio, exploring new grooves and sounds, and teaming up with other artists wherever I can. I’m always excited to share the next song and look forward to sharing it with people who want to come along on the journey—whether you’ve been following me for a while or are just discovering my music. Knowing that there are listeners who enjoy the music as much as I enjoy the process keeps me inspired to keep creating and exploring new sounds.
