Everclear, Lucette, Hungry Hollow

It was a gorgeous Sunday evening to check out the new semi-permanent structure at the Oilers Fan Park beside Rogers Place – with a trio of bands to guide us through the evening!
Promoted by F7 Live, the evening was started off by local blues rock veterans Hungry Hollow; who kicked off the night with a set that warmed up the crowd and set the perfect tone for the rest of the evening.
Next was Lucette, a local indie-ish singer/songwriter.. While Hungry Hollow has made several posts clamoring about their excitement for the event, Lucette had nothing on her socials aside from a collab post on instagram from F7. Her set started off awfully sleepy, and unfortunately just didnt pick up for me. She’s talented, but nobody moved, and her band all looked bored.
That being said, it’s nice to see local bands on the bill for shows like this, and kudos to F7 for securing local talent to round out the show.
Finally, came Everclear! This year marks 30 years since the release of “Sparkle and Fade”, the album that launched Everclear into rock stardom. With the singles Heroin Girl and Santa Monica, you’d think this would be their best-selling album, but it’s actually 3rd, behind “So Much for the Afterglow”, and “Learning How To Smile”.
The band played for a solid 75 minutes, carving their way through a 17 song set, largely focused on the 3 biggest albums. Art Alexakis made entertaining commentary throughout the set – but what caught me was the fact that he’s now 63, and suffers from MS. It’s admirable that he’s still up there kickin’ ass. The nod to Ozzy was a nice touch, with the band jamming segments of both Crazy Train and Paranoid.
The new venue at Fan Park has the potential to be stellar, and I can’t wait to see some of the other shows coming up there in the next few monhts!
