Hi Landon. First off, care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Hey! My name is Landon Gamble, I’m a twenty-two-year-old artist from Toronto, Ontario. Music is my passion and what I love to do most, and I’m so grateful for the opportunity to share it with you and your viewers! I’m usually making songs that fall under the genres of indie rock and indie pop, but I’m always pushing myself to make whatever I feel in the moment and not confine myself to one style of music or writing. For this reason, I feel I could likely have something for everyone in my repertoire of songs!
Your new single “Faces” delves into the complexities of relationships and discovering unexpected sides of people. What inspired you to write this track?
That is such a great analysis of this song. I often say to anyone asking about a writing process that at least for me, there are two main ways of writing a song. Either I will write from experience or create a story and imagine myself in my character’s shoes and write about what they are going through. For “Faces” I chose the latter and created a story. I don’t really have anything in specific that sparked my inspiration for this track, I just remember I had the idea for the line “trying on all of your faces” very early on and I really liked the sentiment behind that so I wanted to revolve the whole song around it. Often, that’s what will happen for me. I’ll think of one line that I really like and decide, “okay, that will be the theme or the message of the story for this song” and I’ll run with it and create everything else around it.
You described “Faces” as one of your favourite songs you’ve ever made. What makes this track stand out for you, both melodically and lyrically?
I think what initially attracted me to this track was the sense of darkness that I got from the chords and melodies. I like making upbeat, happier, more “major” songs too but there is something about melodies and sounds like these that I feel just make me write better. I feel that I can really tap into the sadness, desperation, and anger of emotion far better when I have something like this to work with. So, when I started making the instrumental and forming the demo production I think I knew it was going to be a good song early on.
Working with Dawson Gamble and Matthew Mondello, what was the creative process like for producing this single?
Usually, I will produce all of my demos, the original recording of the song, on my own. Dawson and Matthew went on a music-related trip to L.A at the time I made “Faces” so my process for making the demo was very similar to how it usually is for me. But when they got back from L.A and I showed them the song, they had so many good ideas instrumentally of how I could improve the demo that we started working together on it and before I knew it the song had become so better that I knew it could be a lead single. From there, me and Dawson began the actual production process, working off the demo, in studios around Toronto and we had a finished master within a couple of weeks. Dawson and Matthew are extremely talented producers and musicians who are always helping me be better and I’m grateful that I get to work with them all the time!
“Faces” is a preview of your sophomore EP coming in 2025. Can you share any details about the direction or themes of the EP?
I would say the direction of the music for this next EP is still following a similar path to the journey I’ve been on, but with each project, I feel that I’m learning more about my sound and improving more than I thought I could. You will still be hearing some indie pop, indie rock, and alternative music but with some new twists!
Performing at the Horseshoe Tavern is a milestone for many artists. How did you prepare for the January 16th show?
I was so excited to finally play the Horseshoe, it’s been on my list for a while now. Me and my band worked hard on our set and I think it was truly our best lineup yet. There was new music being played and it was a whole lot of fun!
