However these six recommendations coming up are gonna my list for Zach’s Picks Of The Week, so we’re gonna kick off the best new music right here!
Five
Starting us off will be Begonia, aka Alexa Dirks with the release of her latest single. “Stay Forever”, which is available everywhere and is coming off her upcoming EP, “Open Swim”. The new EP will be released on July 17 via Birthday Cake Records, be sure to check it out if you enjoy the new single. An ethereal song that showcases a profound vulnerability through self-reflection. Check it out here.
Four
Moving along to the next recommendation, it’s Montreal’s Derelict, your new favourite brutal melodic technical death metal band! They are back with their next single “Spectrum”, coming off their upcoming album Versus Entropy. This new single will mark a significant stylistic departure for the band, they explained how southern metal has this tough guy vibe to it. But they decided to write a song for the acceptance of alternative masculinities. Basically, it’s a celebration of the different kinds of men that exist and how it’s OK to just be who you are. Enjoy the new single for “Spectrum” by Derelict within the article here.
Three
Then we have the personal odyssey of Indigenous Canadian musician Tom Wilson (Tehoháhake). Back in 2017, he had a new milestone with the release of his novel, Beautiful Scars: Steeltown Secrets, Mohawk Skywalkers and the Road Home. It was later adapted into a film documentary released in 2022 and then presented as a stage musical at Hamilton’s Theatre Aquarius. One of the big numbers from this show, “Death Row Love Affair” is now being released as a single to all your favourite streaming services. A bit of a preview of his new album, which will be delivered later this year. So please check out Tom Wilson’s new single, “Death Row Love Affair” within this post right here.
Two
Making our way into the second top spot of the week for the best new music will be, singer-songwriter/guitarist Clara O’Page from Montreal, who performs under the moniker Debbie Christ. Now, with their thrilling full-length debut album Tower, which is available everywhere now. They hope to topple our collective inhibitions around shame, sexuality and trauma. Be sure to look up the new album Tower across all streaming platforms and head to our Five Questions interview with Clara O’Page. You can hear all the songs and read up on a very interesting artist right here.
BONUS: Canadian Beats Passport
This is a very special spot where we like to feature an international artist, this one comes from our Canadian Beats Passport. Introducing Shipley in the United Kingdom’s very own Least We Got Shoes is back on our list! With the release of their highly anticipated debut album, “Chapter 1” which you can find now across all streaming platforms. They are best known for a raw and authentic ’boxcar rock’ style, to now bringing a fresh yet nostalgic sound that captures their working-class roots. Tracks like “Don’t Go” and “Too Late” offer listeners a glimpse into the band’s soul, tackling themes of loss, love, and the urgency of living life to the fullest. I hope you like their new album and you can enjoy it within our article right through here.
One
Now this is going to be our final recommendation of the best new music around. So please enjoy my number one pick of the week, Vancouver-based but Australian-born singer-songwriter Meredith Louise. She has unveiled her latest single, “Stay Open” which is available now. It evokes the sun-dappled warmth of a summer afternoon, paying homage to classic 70s soul records. That’s coming off her sophomore EP Move Slow, which you can expect to be released on August 23. However, I encourage you to check out her new single right now in our article here.
