Meredith Louise shares new single, “Stay Open”

Vancouver’s Meredith Louise Shares New Single, “Stay Open” In Advance Of Sophomore EP, Move Slow

Vancouver-based, Australian-born singer-songwriter Meredith Louise has unveiled her new single “Stay Open.” Evoking the sun-dappled warmth of a summer afternoon, this soul/jazz track pays homage to 70s soul records and was recorded live off the floor. Featuring a classic R&B guitar riff and three-piece horn section, the song showcases an evolved sound from the singer-songwriter and leaves much to anticipate for her sophomore EP, Move Slow, out August 23.

Meredith Louise describes this new work as a shift from her first release and explains:

“I’ve been leveling up as a musician and writer, and really starting to find my sound. “Stay Open” was the first song I wrote when I moved to Vancouver. The only instrument I had here was my acoustic guitar. My partner and I were renting a sublet downtown, our few possessions scattered around the studio apartment. It was an exciting, yet daunting and challenging experience. Having packed up our lives and relocated from Australia, we had no idea what we were in for. When life gets challenging and confronting and REAL, it’s very easy to remain closed and shut ourselves off to all the hard and sticky parts. I wrote “Stay Open” as a reminder of the importance of remaining open to new experiences that life brings, despite the hardships that we go through.”

A powerful follow-up to the previous release Mind Frame, Meredith Louise combines infectious grooves with words that make you think, creating a sonic tapestry of jazz, neo-soul, R&B, and folk. Her strong vocals and colourful lyrics create rich imagery that takes the listener on a journey into the human condition. Intrigued by stories and the common threads that weave us together, Meredith writes songs about people, places, and landscapes, and how we can find our way back to our truth. Since relocating to Canada less than two years ago from Melbourne, Australia, Meredith has cemented herself as a part of Vancouver’s local music scene, having shared the stage with the likes of Madeleine Elkins (Madelyn Read, Maddisun), Brennan Buglioni (Nette, Tissa Rahim), Alvin Brendan (Michaela Slinger, Kate Yahn, Mikey Jose) and Justin Juan (Potatohead People). And she’s only just getting started!
