Last night, US heavy metal band Gwar brought their Age of Befuddlement Tour to Montreal, and things got messy!
We arrived just in time to catch Toronto’s Cancer Bats tearing up the stage, with frontman Liam Cormier as energetic as ever! The punk vibes were strong in the house, with the crowd moshing in advance of the night’s headliner.
Finally, shortly before 10pm, Gwar arrived onstage. If our memory serves correctly, they hadn’t played in Montreal since 2014, so what a joy to get the 10-year reunion in the exact same venue! For those who don’t know Gwar, they are a 8-member thrash metal gang of intergalactic destroyers. You can imagine what those costumes look like, or you can look at the photos below. And better yet, those creatures larger than life enjoy spraying the audience with fake bodily fluids: blood, pee,… it’s all there. And fans love it even more, wearing white tee-shirts at the barricade, to walk away with souvenir stains.
The show itself was absolutely electric, cinematically gore, From character being ripped apart onstage, to bits of political activism and of course furious moshpits and crowdsurfing, it was one big thrash metal party for the ages! And of course, we can’t help but keep a thought for the hard-working venue team who will not have the best time washing those stains!
