Cohen Sieg Unveils New Energetic Alt-Pop/Rock Track, “Will You Ever Come Back?”

Manitoba-based rising alt-pop/rock artist Cohen Sieg shares his brand new single, “Will You Ever Come Back?”

Sieg has drawn inspiration from artists like Charlie Puth and FINNEAS by taking a hands-on approach to music creation. Recording and performing the majority of the track in his basement studio, Sieg then teamed up with multi-award-winning Winnipeg producer and recording/mixing engineer John Paul Peters to mix the track.

With punchy guitars and danceable beats, the track is deceptively upbeat as Sieg lyrically investigates his own missteps in a relationship and the messy and complicated reality of being human.

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

Hi there, my name is Cohen Sieg, I’m a 22-year-old folk/pop singer/songwriter, musician, and producer from Sieg’s Corner, Manitoba (yes Sieg’s Corner is a real place, I did not just make it up lol). I’ve been told that I’m a cross between Ed Sheeran and John Mayer.

Tell us a bit about your most recent release.

My most recent release is a single called “Will You Ever Come Back?”, and it’s a song unlike anything I’ve written or recorded before. The song was really my way of pushing the boundaries as a songwriter and a producer, and lyrically it’s kind of about pushing the boundaries of a relationship until there is nothing left to push. This song really is a stepping stone both as an artist and as a producer, as it’s the first major production since 2017 that I recorded myself, and had a hand in mixing as well. I try to be very hands-on with my music making, so having that control over what did and didn’t make it into the song was great, and really was just a great learning experience on what went well and what could be improved for the next track.

Where do you tend to pull inspiration from when writing?

For this particular song I was pretty inspired by bands like 5 Seconds of Summer and One Direction believe it or not, as well as the sounds of early 2000’s alt-rock. I also drew lots of inspiration from Charlie Puth in terms of recording the song myself, and in the songwriting, especially how I formatted the lyrics. As for other songs, I like to picture stories and then bring those stories to life. I used to be a country artist when I first started, and what I really like about country music is how you have room to tell a story in those verses, and especially the bridge, I’m a big fan of taking the song in a different direction for the bridge, really building the song to its climax. I try my best to bring real-world experiences I’ve had to each of my songs, I feel that honesty really resonates with your listeners, but I also am very empathetic and can put myself in a headspace to see and feel how others view the world.

Do you have any upcoming shows you’d like to tell us about?

I don’t currently at this time have any shows lined up, I actually came off a pretty busy summer this year and was playing non-stop in 2022, but I’ll definitely have shows coming up, so be sure to follow me on social media, or check out my website www.cohensieg.com to see all my latest events!

What’s your goal for 2024?

My goal for 2024 is to get at least one of my songs synced in a movie or TV/streaming show. I’ve got some really exciting stuff I’m releasing next year, and one song, in particular, I really believe would do really well in the hands of a sync agent. Really my goal as for any artist is to just keep the momentum up, and appreciate all the small wins that in the end build up to something huge
