Canadian singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and composer Loreena McKennitt writes, records, and performs world music with Celtic and Middle Eastern influences.

Born in Morden, Manitoba, Canada, she moved to Stratford, Ontario in 1981, where she initially worked with Canada’s renowned Stratford Festival. In 1985 she established her own record label, Quinlan Road, a move which has made her a rarity in the music industry.

Most recently, she released a Christmas album, Under A Winter’s Moon (Live at Knox Church, Stratford, Ontario), though she has released many albums over the span of her career, and sold over 14 million albums worldwide. Her recordings have achieved Gold, Platinum, and multi-Platinum status in 15 countries on four continents. She has twice been nominated for a GRAMMY® Award and has won two Juno Awards, as well as a Billboard International Achievement Award.

Loreena is set to play Summerfolk tonight (August 18) at the Amphitheatre at 10:00 pm. McKennitt will be joined by special guests THE BOOKENDS, a Stratford-based Celtic band, and several of their songs will also be included in the sets. On top of this, on Saturday (August 19), there will be an interview-sharing circle at Georgian Bay Roots at 11:00 am.
