Hysterics have been a driving force in the Ontario music community since 2017, having released 2 EPs and playing countless shows to enthusiastic audiences.  Their unique Punk Rock and Grunge blend fuses the 90s with a modern sound.

Hormones deliver six new tracks covering topics such as sex, self-sabotage, female empowerment, politics, hate, and trauma.

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?

CAPO: I’m Capo, I play drums, and I’m the second-best air drummer in Hysterics.

MICH: I’m Mich. I play bass and have been for an obscenely long time, so I should probably be a better bassist by now.

LAURA: I’m Laura, I play guitar, sing, and stress about every single thing that could go wrong.

Tell us a bit about your most recent release.

MICH: It’s my first release with Hysterics! I’m super excited for people to hear it. Style and tone-wise, it’s a little different from how I’ve played with other bands, and I really hope people dig it.

LAURA: “Hormones” is probably the most textured, personal, and musically detailed release we’ve had so far. Hopefully, that means we’re growing as musicians! We keep a lot of the same subjects and themes as our past releases, but I would say the lyrics are much more direct than they ever have been. Still lots of angst, but always keeping it sexy.

CAPO: I had so much fun working on the new songs for the “Hormones” EP. Laura is a great songwriter, and has such a great vision for her songs, that it makes things easy for me to find my parts. Then when Mich comes in with the bass, it feels like everything is right in the world.

Where do you tend to pull inspiration from when writing?

LAURA: For the most part, writing is very organic for me – I wait for the songs to come to me. Not many forced songs make it past the beginning stages because they just aren’t very good. When the writing itch strikes, you have to take advantage of it! I also listen to a ton of different styles of music and try to read as much as I can, which I’m sure has a direct influence on everything I write.

CAPO: For some drum parts, I try to pull inspiration from day-to-day life. For example, there is a highway ramp with rumble strips, and at 60km/hr, it makes a pretty cool drum fill. I use that fill at the end of our set… I don’t think I ever told Laura and Mich where I got that from! Also, the spin cycle on my washing machine never disappoints in creating unusual beats, especially when I overload it.

MICH: As any good bass player, I do what I’m told. Kidding! I’m inspired by so many bands, and friend’s bands. I’m especially inspired by all the strong women in the scene.

Do you have any upcoming shows you’d like to tell us about?

MICH: May 6th is our EP release show! We’re playing in Barrie at the Queen’s.

What’s your goal for 2023?

LAURA: I just want to play music and create as much as I can. Meeting like-minded musicians and amazing people along the way just makes being part of the music scene the best thing in the world.

CAPO: My main goal is to blow up, then act like I don’t know nobody.

MICH: Keep spreading the love in our scene and exposing new people to the sex grunge that is Hysterics!
