Toronto-via-Montreal Afro-Pop Artist, AIZA, Shares Hypnotic First Single of 2023, “Cocoa Butter”
Montreal-born, Toronto-based bilingual pop maven AIZA is about to unveil “Cocoa Butter,” her first new song of 2023. A hypnotic and alluring afro-pop track, its sexy and confident music is meant to get you moving.
AIZA penned “Cocoa Butter” while in the midst of a 2020 lockdown, at a time when she was only able to find peace by blasting music, dancing in front of the mirror, and popping bottles of champagne daily with her sister on their patio – which eventually led the artist to quit drinking altogether.

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
My name is Aiza. I’m a multi-hyphenate artist from Montreal currently based in Toronto. My music is a fresh blend of Afro-Pop and R&B and you should definitely add me to your playlists if you’re into feel-good and inspiring songs.
Tell us a bit about your most recent release.
My new single “Cocoa Butter” is all about taking a much-needed break from work to party with your friends. When the pandemic hit, I didn’t see any of my friends in person for over seven months straight. To stay sane, I spent most of my time blasting music and dancing in front of the mirror… and drinking copious amounts of champagne with my sister on our patio. This song is an ode to that debaucherous, yet somewhat necessary moment in time. It’s extremely upbeat and a little dark. If alternative R&B and afrobeats had a baby, this is definitely what it would sound like.
Where do you tend to pull inspiration from when writing?
I often write songs about the way I want to feel because it tends to help me manifest those feelings and experiences into my life. Life is my biggest inspiration, though. All the ups, the downs, and the different ways I have learned to love myself.
Do you have any upcoming shows you want to tell us about?
I don’t have any upcoming performances booked at the moment… but your readers should go watch the docu-talk show I created, wrote, produced, and co-host with my sister Kamana. It’s called “Real Blackity Talk,” and the entire 1st season is available now on CBC Gem and YouTube. It’s a funny, heartfelt, and dynamic show that shines a spotlight on the experiences of Black women and Non-Binary Black people in Canada. We were just nominated for a Canadian Screen Award and won the “Best Series of the Year” award at the Dynasty Gala in Montreal. I can guarantee that you’ve never watched a show like this before.
What’s your goal for 2023?
My goal is to release the most music I ever have before and to connect with more and more Aiza fans around the world. I’ve been working hard on this new project, and I want to enjoy the ride and be present as much as possible for it. I’m so excited about the reception of “Cocoa Butter” so far and there is a lot more where that came from, so stay tuned, stay blessed and stay fly!
