Justin Fancy Releases Powerful Break-up Anthem, “Lie”
On his new single “Lie,” Canadian Country Recording Artist Justin Fancy confronts the dark specter of a relationship’s dissolution. Driven by Justin’s irrefutable sincerity, the song is a powerful break-up anthem that heralds the end of an unhealthy relationship.
Fancy, the reigning winner of the 2022 East Coast Music Award for Fan’s Choice Entertainer of the Year, is an unfailingly honest songwriter. His sincerity and ability to adapt real-life situations to song allow his experiences the opportunity to resonate with his audience.
“I had a very close friend that became a girlfriend, but that aspect of our relationship didn’t work out,” Fancy says as he contemplates the track’s subject matter. “It was a tough realization to come to terms with, especially because we had been friends for so long before getting together. But eventually, after much heartache, you arrive at a point where you owe it to her, and yourself, not to lie about your feelings anymore.”
The mid-tempo track opens with a lush swell of guitar as Fancy’s heartfelt vocals reveal the protagonist’s conflict via the song’s chorus: “I can’t love you like you want me to, and lie/I can’t be the man you’re runnin’ to, and I/Don’t want to be the one to say goodbye, ‘cause I can’t love you like you want me to, and lie..”
“I sometimes worry I’m putting too much on the line with my songs, and this one is no exception,” he offers. “Country music can be so raw and emotional; I write songs from a place of experience, but ultimately, I also appreciate that relatability is important for listeners.”
“Lie” was produced by Fancy along with long-time collaborator Clint Curtis (who has been behind the board on Fancy’s previous singles and his 2021 debut album “Sure Beats A Good Time), with two-time Grammy Award winner Greg Wells (Michael Bublé, Keith Urban, Carrie Underwood) serving as the Executive Producer on the track. Justin’s relationship with Wells came about after the celebrated producer reached out to the singer about the possibility of working together.
“Right from the beginning of my recording career, I’ve been determined to let my work speak for itself. So, for Greg to reach out to me about working together was beyond gratifying. His knowledge and expertise brought “Lie” to a whole new level. It was incredible to witness, and his work side by side with Clint was really extraordinary.”
“Lie” is the 3rd single from Justin Fancy’s forthcoming sophomore album, due out later this year.
