Ancient Teeth share on their album, Deathbed
Canadian rockers ANCIENT TEETH recently released their debut album, Deathbed, via Locust Hail Productions! The quartet consists of Adrian Mottram (Sights & Sounds, Seas, The Getaway), guitarist Chris Hughes (Moneen, Seas), bassist Jahmeel Russell (Red Vienna, ACTORS, KEN mode), and drummer Mike Duffield (Beams, Flowers From Hell).

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Yes! Hi. My name is Adrian. I sing and play guitar in the band Ancient Teeth. We are a Canadian band. I live in Montreal, Mike and Chris live in Toronto, and Jahmeel lives in Winnipeg. I think something that is important for anyone who’s reading this to know is that even though we are a new band, we are all coming from a huge lineage of projects, and this is just the current version of what we are doing through my optics. I feel blessed every day that Jahmeel, Mike, and Chris are part of this harmonic statement. Our other bands were/are – Beams, ACTORS, Sights & Sounds, Moneen, Seas, Projektor, OLDE, Flowers of Hell, The Getaway, Red Vienna, The Black Halos… Should I go on?
Tell us a bit about your most recent release.
Well, Deathbed is specific to some very challenging events that happened to me personally, and I was able to turn those experiences into musical expression. It’s part 1 of 3 albums so far. I’ve always felt a little awkward exploiting the subject matter in the media, so if anyone hears it and wants to dive deeper, they can. Really it’s just out there to be enjoyed. If music offers solace or companionship to somebody’s life, I feel truly honored. As a band, this album represents a huge outlet for us right now in our lives.
Where do you tend to pull inspiration from when writing?
My life, I think I predominantly use writing as a coping mechanism. This album, in particular, was created to keep me together and provide me support. Most of the time, I’m writing about observations and reflections on the human condition. This album is written in first person, and the second album, Humanizer, was written about everyone in the world around me. Each song is written from the point of view of a friend or relative who was going through shit during the pandemic.
Do you have any upcoming shows you’d like to tell us about?
April 6th in Toronto at Bar Orwell, Pouzza fest in Montreal in May, and we are starting to plan a tour through Europe in September with the band Buerak. (they are a post-punk goth new wave band from eastern Europe!
What’s your goal for 2023?
As a band, We are going to be recording LP3 with Ian Blurton in April!
Personally, I’m learning the Unreal Engine (which is how video games are made) and am going to be learning how to shoot video productions using the “Volume” which is the method the Mandalorian adopted for their filming techniques. I’m hoping that I can finally create the visuals I see in my head when I hear music.
