Greta Van Fleet performed their first-ever show in Montreal last night, bringing their Dreams In Gold tour to the Bell Center! After an opening set by Hannah Wicklund, we started our evening with The Pretty Reckless. From the first few notes of Death by Rock and Roll, multi-hyphenate Taylor Momsen hypnotized the crowd as she pounced around the stage, flipping her platinum blond hair around.
A bit after 9pm, tribal music filled the Bell Center, with a curtain full of hieroglyphic symbols hiding the stage. The lights went out, the curtain dropped, and the crowd erupted in cheers as headliners of the night Greta Van Fleet appeared on stage. The band started their set on a high note, with Built by Nations resonating through the arena, accompanied by columns of fire warming up the stage. Lead singer Josh Kiszka danced around the stage in a velvet bodysuit, showcasing his incredible voice and contagious energy. On a stage setup that felt straight out of the 70s or 80s, one cannot help but to be reminded of Freddie Mercury when looking at Josh command the stage. Jake Kiszka, Sam Kiszka and Danny Wagner also shone with their respective guitar, bass and drums, getting plenty of crazy solos during the show. We last caught the band in Calgary in 2018, and it is no doubt that the Michigan boys have truly matured into their art over the past 4 years. All in all, Greta Van Fleet’s first visit to Montreal was one to remember, and we cannot wait for the next time they come to play!
