OSHEAGA 2022
Day 1: July 29th, 2022
with Arcade Fire, Kygo, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Turnstile, The Kid Laroi, Dominic Fike, Ashe, Tones and I, Gus Dapperton, Group Project
OSHEAGA is back! The 15th-anniversary edition of the festival just kicked off yesterday with blue skies and smiles all around. We kicked off our day with Montreal band Group Project (who did not disappoint, just as we anticipated), followed by singer Gus Dapperton and Dance Monkey viral sensation Tones and I.
Ashe was next on the Mountain stage, and she definitely kicked things up a notch with her incredible energy and sweet voice. Her set was definitely one of the pleasant surprises of Day 1 for us! Up next, and after some unexplained 20-min delay, Euphoria actor Dominic Fike arrived on stage, to deliver a short but rocking set in front of a packed crowd. The energy kept on increasing with every artist, but it particularly did with The Kid Laroi, who paced and jump around the stage non-stop! We hit peak energy on the next set at the Green stage with epic Baltimore punk sensation Turnstile. Kicks, high jumps, crowd surfing and moshpits – it was a departure from the more “pop” acts on the main stage, but what’s there not to like?!
Up next, Yeah Yeah Yeahs arrived on stage around 8pm. Just like when we caught them at Osheaga 2018, lead singer Karen O held the crowd in the palm of her hand as she completely commanded the stage from Spitting Off the Edge of the World to Heads Will Roll.
Finally, the headliners of the night made their grand return to the OSHEAGA stage in front of an ecstatic audience. Indeed, hometown heroes Arcade Fire last played the festival in 2010! The indie rock formation presented tracks from their latest album WE, without forgetting any of the classics too. With a huge disco ball on top the stage, Win Butler and his friends turned Parc Jean Drapeau into a big party, and confirmed during their set that the party will be back in December with a show at the Bell Center!
On our way out, we decided to stop and check out Norwegian DJ Kygo‘s set, and boy are we glad we did! The Green stage was glowing with fire and fireworks, and an absolutely packed audience was jumping and singing along to all his hits! Australian singer Dean Lewis also made a special appearance to sing Lost Without You, their newest collab. We danced the night away, and from the energy felt on the island, if festivalgoers could have stayed there until the sun came up, they would have!
