Heartfelt country storytelling with a modern edge
Amber Walls continues to carve out her place in Canada’s country music scene with the release of her new single, “I Hope God Plays Fetch,” arriving February 20th. Hailing from Blackville, New Brunswick, Walls blends the warmth of ‘90s country roots with a modern, emotionally resonant approach to storytelling.
Known for her ability to connect through honest and heartfelt lyrics, Walls explores a different kind of loss on this track, one that goes beyond people and reaches into the moments, memories, and chapters of life that can never quite be relived. “I Hope God Plays Fetch” captures that quiet longing with a sincerity that feels both personal and universal.
Walls has already proven herself as a rising force in the indie country scene, with her previous single “Lonesome” reaching #5 on the Canadian Indie Country Countdown and earning the #1 spot on the KB Country Countdown. Her growing reputation is backed by powerful live performances, including appearances at major events like Boots and Hearts and the CCMA Week Diamonds in the Rough showcase.
Having shared stages with artists like Gord Bamford and set to open for Brett Kissel in 2026, Amber Walls continues to build momentum, connecting with audiences through every lyric she delivers. With “I Hope God Plays Fetch,” she offers a moving reminder of the depth and storytelling that country music does best.
First off care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Hi! My name is Amber Walls, and I am an independent country music artist from Blackville New Brunswick! I’ve grown up my whole life being surrounded by country music, living in rural New Brunswick, you hear it everywhere you go! From a young age I loved singing – I was in my school and church choir, and I always sang at local fundraisers. I always wrote down bits and pieces of lyrics but never felt like I could write an entire song because I couldn’t play an instrument well enough. During lockdown in 2020 I taught myself to play guitar and everything kind of changed from there! After that I started writing my own music and in 2022 I played my first live gig and participated in Music New Brunswick’s Development Program. In 2023 I was selected for funding the artist Development Program through Music New Brunswick and released my first single ‘Should Have Listened to Mama’! I never imagined I would have a song being played on the radio! That summer I was selected to be in the Top Eight for the Boots and Hearts Emerging Artist Showcase, that was the first festival I ever played, and it was one of the best experiences of my life! After that I started playing a lot more live gigs and really enjoyed the thrill of being on stage. In 2024 and 2025 I got the chance to play on the Diamonds in the Rough Stage during CCMA week in both Edmonton and Kelowna! I also had the opportunity to open for Gord Bamford in the summer of 2025 – it was my first full band gig!
Tell us a bit about your recent release.
Lonesome came from an idea I had been holding onto for a little while. I wanted to write a song about how music can take you back into a certain time in your life. One day while missing my high school friends, I was thinking of the songs we used to listen to, and I just started writing Lonesome. In the bridge, you can hear some of the lyrics from the songs that we would sing. I had a group of friends that were really close and then we kind of just grew up and we didn’t see each other as much. Those songs remind me of when we hung out all the time, and I think you could be lonesome for people and have feelings at the same time.
Walk us through your creative progress when creating music.
Sometimes when I’m writing a song it is different each time. Most of the time I have a little lyric that I think “oh wow this would make a great hook” and then I try to write a song around that. Sometimes that works and sometimes the song turns into something totally different which is what happened with Lonesome! I like to sit down and write the lyrics and melody at the same time, most of the time the song just flows right out of me!!
Now that the music is out, what does the ‘road ahead’ look like? Beyond tours and videos, what’s one ‘bucket list’ goal you hope to achieve with this release?
For this release I really hope it is heard Canada-wide. It is such a goal of mine to have somebody in Newfoundland and somebody in BC listening to my song at the same time!
Every artist has a ‘lightbulb moment’ where things just clicked. Looking back, what’s the one performance or milestone that made you realize, ‘Okay, this is what I was meant to do’?
I am a teacher full time. After I released Lonesome, we had a fundraiser for the graduation class and while I was playing on stage all the students literally rushed to the stage! Lonesome had just come out two weeks before this, while I was singing all the students were singing it back to me and it took everything in me not to start crying! I just knew that this felt right!!
We love championing Canadian talent. If you were curated a ‘Must-Listen’ playlist of emerging artists right now, who is the first person you’d add?
This is such a tough question! There are so many good emerging artists across the country, it’s so hard to pick just one!! I would say my first add would be my friends Taylor Jenson from Nova Scotia or Amelia Underhill and Ella Campbell from New Brunswick!
There’s nothing like the energy of a live room. Where can fans catch you on stage next, and for someone seeing you for the first time, what should they expect from a [Band Name] live experience?”
This summer I will be opening for Brett Kissel at Rockin’ Riverfest in Miramichi, New Brunswick! I will also be playing gigs across the province of New Brunswick!! I feel like in my live show I bring a lot of energy and I sing some good throwbacks to get everybody in the crowd involved!
