iDKHOW shares new album, Gloom Divison
Salt Lake City-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Dallon Weekes, aka, I DONT KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME (iDKHOW) has unveiled the new album, GLOOM DIVISION, via Concord Records.
The enchanting lead single, “WHAT LOVE?” is a great starting point for the highly anticipated sophomore album. It serves as an homage to the suggestive and sexually charged R&B hits of the 90s and is accompanied by a decadent music video!
Produced by Dave Fridmann (Tame Impala, MGMT, Weezer) and recorded at Fridmann’s Tarbox Road Studios and Weekes’ own basement studio, GLOOM DIVISION is a testament to the power of collaboration and fearless artistic expression.
“Writing has always been an outlet to exorcize your demons or difficult emotions, but with GLOOM DIVISION I made a conscious effort to stop censoring myself when it comes to the subject material, or what I wanted to say,” reflects Weekes on GLOOM DIVISION.
iDKHOW has garnered nearly 1 billion million streams worldwide to date, with 2 million monthly listeners on Spotify. The new album follows iDKHOW’s critically acclaimed debut, Razzmatazz, which included the #1 Alternative radio hit, Leave Me Alone, and the previous EP 1981 Extended Play that included RIAA certified GOLD-certified single, Choke. They have performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Ellen, and CBS This Morning: Saturday, and shared stages with Post Malone, The Killers, and more.
First off care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Hello readers, my name is Dallon Weekes. I’m a musician/artist/husband/father of two, and I know enough karate to ruin the day of a bad guy (depending on the day).
Tell us a bit about your recent release.
It’s called ‘GLOOM DIVISION’, and you have to type it in all caps, otherwise nobody would be able to read it. It’s that good.
How do you typically go about the songwriting process? Do you have a specific method or creative routine that you follow?
I don’t really have a set process. It always seems to depend on inspiration, though. I can’t really force myself into completing an idea. I feel like it has to come from somewhere else first.
Looking ahead, what are your plans for supporting this new release? Are there any upcoming tours, music videos, or additional content that fans can look forward to in connection with this project?
Touring is the thing! I expect to be doing a lot of it in the coming album cycle. I’m looking forward to it!
Looking back on your musical career, is there a particular moment or accomplishment that you consider a turning point or a highlight?
The first time I ever played a show for strangers who were actually there to see my band, and not just friends/family that were invited to the show. It was Kilby Court in Salt Lake City. We had played there a few times before. Word of mouth about what we were doing was enough to raise the interest of the general public, and we found ourselves playing to ‘fans’ for the first time. That was enough to make me want to do this forever.
Last but not least, it’s time to pay it forward, what upcoming band or artist would you recommend your fans check out?
Many incredible artists deserve the attention of the public. Superet is the first that comes to mind. Give their album ‘How To Work A Room’ a listen. You’ll be glad you did!
