Zach’s Picks of the Week – April 17 to April 22, 2023

Zach's Picks 417

Find out the five articles Zach Coopz recommends this week

Good Music Monday, everybody! I hope you’re all having a fantastic day or start to your week. We’ve got plenty of new music on our website, so let’s get into it! These are my top five recommendations from Canadian Beats Media that I like to nickname Zach’s Picks Of The Week. I would usually talk about each recommendation in the video below us. However, I was under the weather and could not perform as usual. I recommend you visit each of these articles in this post. Read up everything you can, go and support them, and listen to their new songs. They need your attention, and I have recommended them to you. Let’s not waste any more time here. That will be this week’s episode, and please explore all of this great content and the rest of the website.

Five

Let’s begin this week’s list with Alberta’s old-time musician, folk music scholar, and ethnomusicologist, Mike Tod. He brings many of his favourite folk and old-time songs to his debut self-titled LP. It’s available across all streaming platforms and features previous singles like “The Coo Coo” and “The Blackest Crown.” These tracks are an excellent introduction for new listeners, showcasing Mike’s genuine sound. Read our review of Mike Tod’s LP and listen to the album here.

Four

Moving to a Canadian rock duo that we’re familiar with already. Toronto’s The Manic Boys and Girls Club is returning with another single from their upcoming self-titled EP, which comes out on July 13th and includes the track “We’ll Be Fine.” However, this EP is a collection of five songs that recount these two loners’ experiences, touring in a van, and interpersonal relationships. Our article has the new video for “We’ll Be Fine” and a mini-interview with the band. You can find both of those things here

Three

Next is a live music experience that combines genres like R&B, Gospel, Reggae, Pop, Rock, and even Soul. The Recipee Band is here with the release of their song “Edges Laid (Tonight),” and it is available everywhere. It’s a perfect example of the strength of combined talent each band member brings whenever they step into the studio or onto the stage. This year will bring two highly anticipated singles and an album in 2024. You can hear their single “Edges Laid (Tonight)” in our Five Questions With here

Two

This week’s top two brings back Vancouver pop artist Madisyn Gifford, whose cheeky new single is out now called “Prettiest Bitch” via 604 Records. It’s a perfect mix of self-deprecating humour and self-empowerment in one catchy tune. Madisyn shares, “Prettiest Bitch is a song I wrote on my guitar last spring in a moment of contemplation. I was thinking about how I recognize myself for my flaws and everything wrong with me and still love myself anyway.” You can listen to Madisyn’s latest single here

One

Finally, we’re at my last and favourite recommendation from this week’s list of new music. I’m thrilled to introduce you to the wonderfully talented singer-songwriter Tara MacLean, whose new album is a reimagined collection of her past work, acting as a soundtrack for her inspiring new book. The album Sparrow features previous singles like “Let Her Feel The Rain” and “If I Fall,” produced by Daniel Ledwell. Ledwell took the songs to a new level with stunning lush production and a beautiful understanding of Tara as a vocalist and storyteller. Be sure to explore our Five Questions With segment with Tara MacLean and listen to her most recent single, “Lay Here In The Dark,” from her album, here

Those are going to be my recommendations from our website this week. Please be sure to go and explore the rest of our website for all of the excellent content posted daily, so be sure to follow us on all our platforms to stay up to date with all things Canadian music. These have been Zach’s Picks Of The Week, at least for this week. So be sure to tell your friends to come back next Music Monday to see what I have in store. However, until we meet again, this will be what I have to offer you—nothing but the best new music that came out here in our beautiful country of Canada. Have a great weekend ahead of you, as always, PEACE, LOVE, AND GOOD MUSIC, EVERYONE!!
