Manchester Orchestra was in town last night to present their The Million Masks of God Tour. The Montreal Jazz Festival just ended the night prior, but they present shows year-round, and last night’s was no exception!
Staten Island singer-songwriter Kevin Devine kicked off the evening. Alone on stage with his guitar, his lyrics and storytelling became front and center, punched in by his raspy, yet powerful voice. It was a soft set to kick off the evening, a great way to relax before the indie rock to come!
Up next, Pennsylvania’s Tigers Jaw hopped on stage, bringing the energy up a notch! Frontman and guitarist Ben Walsh jumped around the stage as the band played hit after hit, with the audience jumping along and getting ready for the main act!
Finally, the headliners of the night Manchester Orchestra arrived on stage shortly after 9pm. In front of a backdrop adorning a large white circle, the band was plunged in moody lighting from the beginning of their set. This helped create an intimate experience, as lead singer Andy Hull commanded the room, his emotions shining through even when he was in the shadows. The band rocked out with the audience, delivering a very tight set packed with indie rock hits, the perfect way to end the week!
