Edmonton, AB-based singer-songwriter, Robin Cisek has released her potent new electro-infused single “Siren”, the 2nd single from her new album Delicate Minds set for release on June 18, 2021.
“Siren” is a song about addiction that assaults the senses with its dynamic sounds and powerful lyrics.
“This ballad was written about the things in our lives that we refuse to give up,” says Robin. “No matter if the addictions are good or bad, your sirens keep calling you back.”

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Hi! My name is Robin Cisek! I am a Metis alt-pop musician from Edmonton, Alberta! I jumped into my music career after experiencing years of health problems and chronic pain. Music became my refuge and a way to express myself, heal, and connect with people around me. So, I guess you could say, that music came into my life just when I needed it. Now I’m hooked and I don’t think I can ever go back!
The first two songs I ever wrote on my own described my experience while going through my health problems. I was able to record them both in New York City in 2016 thanks to the support of my family. It was my chance to jump into a music career and see where it would take me. I was extremely grateful that one of those two songs hit #1 on an international radio music chart called the Indigenous Music Countdown. It stayed on that chart for 24 consecutive weeks and has allowed me to progress my career in music further and follow this crazy dream!
I feel like I have grown as an artist since writing those 2 songs and my style has definitely evolved in my new music. All the songs on my album, including ‘Siren’, focus on issues that are very personal to me. The most important thing for me when I am writing music is to make people feel heard and show them they aren’t alone.
Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.
I believe that music is best when it brings people together and says something about our world. That is why my new album, which will be out on June 18th, is all about destigmatizing mental health and addiction and connecting those with mental illness. ‘Siren’ is about our addictions. We can be addicted to people, places or things and they may not be what’s best for us but our sirens always seem to call us back to them! Sometimes it’s difficult to understand why our hearts and minds choose to be so attached to something.
I have always been heavily influenced by Melody Martinez. Her lyrics and metaphors hold a lot of power and meaning behind them. I love how her albums are more like projects in the way that all her songs are connected by a story. My goal with this new music was to accomplish this kind of connection and cohesion! My new tracks take inspiration from artists like BANKS, Ruelle and AU/RA and their dark-pop/ electro-pop sounds.
How have you been keeping creative during the Pandemic?
I’ve been spending a lot of my time during the pandemic working on my big album release coming in June! I want this release to be perfect and I like to have my hands in everything regarding my music and content creation so I have been very busy! Recently I have been staying creative by creating new digital art with photoshop and even experimenting with creating some interactive things like Instagram filters! When restrictions allow it, I model for photographers and a styling team (Socially distanced of course!) and create unique images and artwork! It is so important for me to have creative outlets, so I have a lot of other hobbies that keep me busy!
If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?
I think it would really depend on who I am talking to! I would try to suggest a song that I believe someone would have a connection with. I feel like I’ve truly poured my heart into this new album. I think that I would probably suggest my song, ‘Speak to Me’ which was the debut single from my new album. It is upbeat and emotional and I believe it speaks (no pun intended) to a lot of different people.
Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?
I have a lot of love for Nuela Charles, Ceileigh Cardinal, and Shawnee Kish. Now those are some incredible female musicians who know exactly what they want from their careers and write music that touches people’s hearts! I am so inspired by their hard work and determination to create a space for strong Canadian women in music!
