Toronto, ON-based rapper, Ethan Torrance recently dropped his debut EP, Monsoon Season. The 7-track release is a journey inside of his mind. Fuelled with a buoyant mix of new school trap and classic hip-hop style beats partnered with witty lyricism, a complex array of flows, braggadocios bars, and a raw cadence, Ethan Torrance will definitely be cementing himself in the hip-hop landscape with this collection of tracks.

Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
Of course! I’m Ethan Torrance a new rapper out of Toronto. My goal is to bring old school hard-hitting lyricism back to new school buzzy trap beats while making my listeners laugh and feel something. I just dropped my debut EP, Monsoon Season and it’s definitely a vibe.
Tell us a bit about your music and writing style
My writing style is very touch and go. When I begin to write a song I usually begin writing without a beat and when I find the beat that matches with my lyrics, it’s like a puzzle. I go back and mesh the two to totally make it feel like a cohesive product. Sometimes, I have lyrics written and just can’t find the proper beat to it like my song F**kup. I actually wrote it way back in 2016 but only found the perfect beat to it last year. When I’m picking beats, I like to have generally more fast-paced beats as I hate having dead space in my songs, I want my bars to just totally fill the song.
Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain
your live performance?
Unfortunately, COVID has put a damper on my Monsoon Season tour I had set up. I am currently looking for ways to safely perform but am planning an online virtual concert soon. My live style is as hype as you can imagine. I got the mic in my hand, jumping along to the music, no backing vocals, no hype man. Just me on stage going absolutely BONKERS!
If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?
Great question! I would have to say my lead single, F**kup. I chose it because it really encapsulates my style and energy along with some of my craziest vocals and a really catchy chorus. I wrote this song for anyone who just ever feels like they can’t do anything right and just constantly feels like they’re messing everything up. This is definitely a hype anthem for you f**kups out there. My video is crazy as well, you got me karate chopping and playing guitar in a swimming pool! What more could you want in a music video?
Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?
This has been a crazy year for Canadian artists! I have been really enjoying The Weeknd and Jessie Reyez’s albums that they recently put out and am anxiously awaiting Drake’s Certified Lover Boy. I also have got to give a shoutout to my friend and crazy rapper A.O. Gorman, he put out a fantastic EP that totally blew me away and for your CanadianBeats exclusive, we just finished a song together that I can’t wait for everyone to hear, it’s a really nutty club anthem that will have the whole crowd nodding their heads.
