Care to introduce yourself to our readers?
My name is Joe McLeod, I am a singer-songwriter based in Toronto Ontario!
Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.
My writing style centers around the idea of using personal, reflective experiences and translating those into stories in which anyone could resonate with. My music is a combination of Folk, Pop, and Alt Rock. I think being a solo artist gives me more wiggle room in terms of genre. I like bringing the listener on a journey!
Do you have any upcoming shows? For someone who has yet to see you live, how would you explain your live performance?
I currently like many musicians, have had to cancel my entire summer of shows BUT I have begun to do Livestream concerts on my Facebook, Instagram, and Youtube pages. Even if you’ve never seen me perform, I try to make everyone feel connected through the experience of my music. I love to tell stories, make up verses on the fly, pull up people to sing with me, and honestly just have a good time. I really try to make each show a unique experience, one that we can all share together! Hopefully, soon enough we can all get together again and share in the music.
If you were asked to suggest only one of your songs for someone to hear, which would it be?
If you are interested in checking out my music, I would recommend my newest single “Those Who Can Wait” as it features a different side of my songwriting while providing an atmospheric listen. The song features 4 cellos and over 12 violins. The goal was to make this song feel grand and develop a large swell of emotion and I think we’ve been able to accomplish just that!
Canadian Beats is all about Canadian music, so who are your current favourite Canadian bands/ artists?
My favorite Canadian bands/artists would have to include The Elwins, Rural Alberta Advantage, Tim Baker, Hannah Georges, Dan Mangan and so many more! The talent in this country is impeccable.
