Brantford’s punk rock festival, Blackout Fest is now entering its 13th year. The 2-day festival takes place on October 18 & 19 and has become a huge part of the local punk rock and pop-punk scene.
We caught up with punk-rock band Keep Flying. Check out their latest video, “Miranda” below and find out more about the band and the upcoming festival.
First off, care to introduce yourself to the Canadian Beats readers?
What’s up y’all. It’s your friendly neighborhood circus act, Keep Flying. We love coming up to the great white north. Feels like home.
The 13th annual Blackout Fest takes place on October 18 & 19 in Brantford, ON. What is it like to be a part of such a long-running festival?
We love Jamie who has curated the festival and we appreciate being asked to come back to rock each time. It’s been special watching this thing grow each year.
Have you taken part in Blackout Fest before? If so, what is your favourite memory?
We sure have, it’s been a couple of years deep for us now. Since our band started we have been welcomed by the festival to come up and put on a show for some great folks.
Probably last year when we actively tried to get Harbor to mess up by just standing in the crowd distracting them.
There is a stellar lineup for the 2019 installment, is there anyone you’re dying to check out? Most of these bands we have played with or have crossed paths with but this year we are pumped to see the lads in Seaway tear it up.
For people that have yet to see you perform live, explain your performance in five words or less.
Positive high energy freakshow.
If you were asked to give advice to an up and coming artist or band, what would that advice be?
If you want to do it, do it. No reason in delaying. DIY scene is better than ever so just get off your ass and go.
Now that the festival season is coming to a close, what’s up next for you?
We’ve got a 7inch dropping with our current new singles and then a lot of touring for the rest of 2019.
