As special as summer outdoor music shows are, we know there is always a risk that mother nature may wreak havoc with our plans. This is what happened on Tuesday evening. An evening that was scheduled to end with the California punk godfathers Social Distortion taking the stage, ended up being cut short just before the headliners were to come on due to an approaching electrical storm that we could see gathering in the distance. Safety First.
As disappointing as that was, the crowd was able to enjoy three great bands before the weather dictated the terms.
Mexican female-led garage punk band Le Butcherettes brought significant energy and an interesting sound that made me want to explore this band further.
Bluegrass band The Devil Makes Three evened out the energy and delivered some great bluegrass/country that was easy on the ears and welcomed by the growing crowds.
Celtic-punk rockers Flogging Molly erupted onto the stage with a frontal assault that proved all that you have heard about their high energy sets was true. Toward the end of their set we could see lightning get brighter and closer … and shortly after they walked off … the announcement was made … safety first … sigh.
