Who: Blinky Bill, Popa Chubby, Mr Eazi
We started our night at MTelus, where Kenyan artist Blinky Bill opened the evening, performing tracks from his solo album “Everyone’s just winging it and other fly tales”, getting the audience excited for the evening thanks to his upbeat performance and contagious energy.
We then took a detour by the Hyundai outdoor stage, to catch the set of American guitarist extraordinaire Popa Chubby. Due to today’s heatwave, the temperature was already sweltering in Montreal, but Horowitz brought it up a few more degrees with his insane guitar riffs and an incredible cover of Hendrix’s “Hey Joe”.
Finally, our last act of the night was Nigerian sensation Mr Eazi. Renowned as the pioneer of banku music, he has spent the past few years watching his career skyrocket, from a set at Coachella earlier this year to more recently a collaboration with Latin sensations J Balvin and Bad Bunny. Mr Eazi jumped around the stage with an insane amount of energy, in front of a packed audience so excited that MTelus got a heatwave of its own!
