Katy Perry & Rebecca Black
July 30, 2025
Bell Centre, Montreal, QC
Katy Perry’s return to Montreal was a futuristic fever dream—a dazzling spectacle that blended Cirque du Soleil-level theatrics with cutting-edge AI, all wrapped in Perry’s signature pop charisma.
Rebecca Black, famously known for her viral hit “Friday,” has certainly evolved as an artist, but her opening performance for Katy Perry showed room for growth. While her bold new look and dynamic stage presence highlighted her maturity, some aspects of her vocals lacked consistency, occasionally wavering during more challenging notes. Despite these areas for improvement, Rebecca demonstrated genuine potential, leaving the crowd intrigued and setting an energetic, albeit uneven, tone for Katy.

From the moment the lights dimmed and the first AI-generated video introduced the act titled “Artificial,” it was clear this wasn’t going to be a typical pop concert. Each segment of the show—“Woman’s World,” “Nirvana,” “Choose Your Adventure,” “Mainframe,” and “End Game”—was ushered in by a unique AI video, giving the night a narrative arc that felt like a digital odyssey through Perry’s imagination.
She playfully reminded the crowd, “I know I’m not Dua Lipa,” earning laughs and cheers. But by the end of the night, there was no doubt that Perry’s show was in a league of its own. The production was a cardio-intensive tour de force, with Perry dancing, singing, and even soaring—quite literally—as she rode a pair of massive butterflies during “Roar,” a moment that had the entire Bell Centre on its feet.
Montreal received plenty of love throughout the night. Perry gushed about the city’s energy and style, and during the “Choose Your Adventure” segment, she brought three lucky fans on stage to help steer the show’s direction. The audience also got to vote for songs in real time via QR code—a clever, interactive twist that made everyone feel like part of the performance.
The cirque-inspired elements were jaw-dropping: aerialists, contortionists, and dancers in LED suits transformed the stage into a living, breathing art piece. It was a sensory overload in the best way possible. By the time “End Game” closed the night, it was clear that Katy Perry had delivered more than a concert—she gave Montreal a full-blown immersive experience. Equal parts heart, humour, and high-tech wizardry, it was a reminder of why she remains one of pop’s most inventive performers.
