Goldy Locks shares new campaign, “Buy the Record, Not the Bod” (Interview)

Goldy Locks Sparks National Conversation With “Buy the Record, Not the Bod” Campaign

Goldy Locks, the electrifying frontwoman of The Goldy lockS Band and a trailblazing pro wrestling personality, has ignited a powerful new movement that calls out the exploitation of women in the music industry — and demands real support for working artists. Her new photo campaign, titled “Buy the Record, Not the Bod,” boldly features Goldy posing nude, shielded only by physical copies of her music. The message is unmistakable: this isn’t about sex, it’s about survival — and it’s time to fund the art, not just ogle the artist.

“I’ve had enough of people telling women like me to start an OnlyFans if we want to keep making music,” says Goldy. “This campaign is my answer. I’ll strip down for the message, not for a subscription. I’ll get vulnerable not for clicks, but to push a conversation that needs to happen. If you love an artist, buy their album. Don’t just stream it and scroll on.”

Goldy’s campaign arrives at a time when musicians earn on average $0.003 to $0.005 per stream on major platforms like Spotify — a figure that forces many independent artists, especially women, to consider alternative revenue models that often rely on sexualization. But Goldy is choosing a different path — one grounded in creativity, courage, and conviction.

“You want to support women? Support their work. Their art. Their grit. I’d rather be covered in CDs than ask strangers to subscribe to a fantasy,” she says.

Goldy’s approach also highlights the very real financial backbone that physical media and merchandise still provide to working artists. According to a 2024 Nielsen report, vinyl sales rose for the 18th consecutive year, with younger fans driving demand for physical product as a show of genuine support. For indie musicians, merch and album sales at shows often cover the basic costs of touring and recording — something no amount of streaming royalties can achieve.

“Artists make money off what you take home with you — a T-shirt, a CD, a download. That’s what keeps the music alive. And when fans buy something directly from me, they’re not just buying a record. They’re funding the next one.”

Beyond the economics, “Buy the Record, Not the Bod” serves as a cultural statement on how female artists are expected to navigate an industry that frequently ties success to sex appeal.

“I wanted this campaign to empower women who feel like they have to sell themselves short — or sell themselves, period — to stay relevant,” says Goldy. “You don’t need perfect abs to be powerful. You need to believe your worth isn’t tied to the algorithm.”

Goldy’s journey from wrestling ring to stage to spotlight has always been driven by fearless reinvention. As a former TNA Impact Wrestling performer, entrepreneur, podcast host, and rock powerhouse, she’s stood alongside legends like Stevie Nicks, Nickelback, and Maroon 5. But it’s her honesty and resilience that have earned her a devoted following across generations and genres.

The inspiration for the campaign came from a higher place, too.

“This idea came to me in prayer,” Goldy shares. “I was asking how to move forward as an artist, and I had this vision. Every store owner I spoke with said yes — before I even finished explaining. It reminded me there’s so much goodness out there, so many people who still believe in art with a purpose.”

Her new single, “I Didn’t Know,” featuring Mickie James Aldis and country rap icons The LACS, expands her reach even further. The track tells a story of betrayal, heartbreak, and rediscovery — a fitting companion to her current message of self-worth and reclaiming power.

Goldy is using every tool at her disposal to shift the narrative — not just for herself, but for younger women watching. “I want to show the next generation that they can lead with talent, truth, and bravery. That they don’t have to go along with everything just because it’s popular.”

The campaign is gaining traction on social media with fans using #BuyTheRecordNotTheBod to share their own stories, purchases, and support for women in music. Goldy encourages others to join the movement by:

  • Buying or downloading music directly from artists
  • Purchasing physical albums, vinyl, and merchandise
  • Sharing the work of indie creators across platforms
  • Encouraging conversations about equity and respect in entertainment
  •

As Goldy puts it:

“This isn’t about modesty or morality. It’s about agency. I took control of my body and my message. And now I’m asking the world — will you take action, or just take a peek?”

Hi, Goldy! Good to see you again! Care to introduce yourself to the readers for those not familiar with your music?

What an honor to be considered for your publication again. Everybody here is so Canadian and friendly!

My name is Goldy Locks. I’m the original cast of TNA Wrestling, backstage interviewer, Wrestling manager, and pro wrestler from time to time… I had a record deal in chanhassen, one with Prince, and many in between. I front The Goldy lcokS Band, Have had several amazing shows on TLC doing gross and shocking things to get people to laugh, and I also had a home improvement show on PBS where I help single moms and veterans improve their spaces.

Let’s start with the obvious—how did the idea of posing nude with CDs hit you during prayer?! That’s divine inspiration with a side of rock ‘n’ roll.

I literally said God, would you please help me figure out a way to tell people about our band in an empowering way. I’m tired of being penalized because I don’t have an OnlyFans. We have a patreon.com/GoldyLocks. It’s behind the scenes, supporters get to see things first, hear roughs and demos, there is a “Sexy Locks” tier, bathing suits, bikinis, workout gear… We have lots of women on that platform who just want to support me in the band. They like to know that a woman can stay in great shape and is inspired by it. It’s nothing creepy. But a lot of guys sign up and then get pissed off that there’s “nudes”. I never said there was any. We play a lot of sororities, frats, lots of beautiful upcoming young women book us. But then there are a lot of younger women, still in high school, who think their new career is going to be an OF. Like they don’t have to go to college or vocational school or learn a trade, they can just do the diddly do… I asked God to come up with something that would get people’s attention, and he did. The flip side is being naked across Nashville is very strange and weird. I’m out of my comfort zone. I don’t have my six pack, and I feel like my arms look like bat wings waving in the wind. But I knew if I did this, it would get attention, and it has. A certain platform has almost banned me, and they’ve deleted many of my posts because of “nudity.” Even though we both know there’s a bunch of craptastic content on most platforms that is much worse than anything I’m trying to do, and mine is attached to a cause. I’m as stripped down as you get, which is a metaphor and a parallel for the music industry and what Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music, all of them… I’m stripped down to nothing, and that’s basically what they pay. So the whole “Buy The Record Not The Bod is a double entendre for female empowerment but also for all artists saying, we need to be paid more.

What was the very first reaction you got when you pitched this campaign to a record store owner? Did anyone blink twice?

So far, we only pitched it to our brand new manager, who basically told me it was a bad idea. Anytime somebody reacts the way that he did, I feel as though what we do is like holding up a mirror. People see their own “stuff” and flip out. He said a lot of derogatory things after I posted the first promo, so I kindly wished him well and parted ways. I knew differently because I know our audience. I never say the “F” word. (Fan). I hate it. That applies to maybe Michael Jackson, The Beatles, but even people like Lady Gaga or Pink, or huge stars, refer to the people that follow them with something kind, custom, and endearing. Ours are “Golden Peeps” given to us by the gay community years ago, so I just went with it. All our people got it right away. Especially the women. But who got it the most were the people that I asked if I could come do promos at their businesses. I approached them, and without even getting three words out of my mouth, their response was, “Anything we can do for you, Goldy.” Each time that was said, my eyes filled with water because the support was overwhelming. I realized at that time that even though our band isn’t globally known, we are one of the wealthiest musical acts because of the people who love and follow us.

Streaming pays pennies. What would you say to someone who says, “But I’m supporting you by adding your song to my playlist”?

A younger me would cut a promo on them. Call them names. Get mad and jump up and down and scream and yell. Lol.  The big girl me with adult pants (Not diapers, not yet anyway) version would thank them, but then direct them to our website www.GoldylockSBand.com, and tell them to buy a physical copy or download the songs where we actually got paid. I tell people, if you like our music or us so much, then support us while we’re still alive. Don’t just post some meme or picture of us when we’re gone. I think a lot of entertainers out there, if we had shown more love to them while they were around, the Robin Williams, Kate Spades of the world might still be around.

For every young woman trying to break into music without breaking themselves, what’s your one unapologetic piece of advice?

Get off your ass and work really hard. Nobody’s going to do anything for you. And if they do, they’re probably looking for sexy time. If that’s the route that you want to go, they might buy you a few dinners, and then they’re going to drop you cold. So keep your integrity intact. Do things that you can look at yourself in the mirror the next morning and be proud of. Do things that leave a legacy in your name. Be kind, respectful, and love the people who put you where you are because it’s the supporters coming to the shows and the people doing exactly what I’ve been asking about to do. They are the most precious entities on the planet. Don’t compromise yourself. Lastly, when you get that tingle in your gut because you know something is “off”… Leave. You’re going to have a lot of people, not just men, dangling carrots in front of your nose. They’re going to make you jump through hoops, and they’re not going to do anything. You will start to spot these people and smell them like a pile of dung from a mile away. Don’t entertain it. To quote the late Dr Maya Angelou…”when somebody shows you who they are the first time… Believe them.”
