Canada Day in Ottawa – A celebration of unity, culture, and song
The hot, sticky weather and blinding sun of July 1st couldn’t keep the people from far and wide from Nation’s Capital, the national Canada Day in Ottawa celebrations at Lebreton Flats!
The official noon ceremony on Lebreton Flats was concise yet stirring. Although filled with rousing speeches given by distinguished guests such as Prime Minister Mark Carney, Governor General Mary Simon, and the Duke of Edinburgh (on behalf of the Crown), and special presentations that included honouring the great Terry Fox, the Canadian flag on its 60th anniversary, and presenting actor Ryan Renyolds with the Order of Canada, the spotlight was on the country’s most inspiring moments and artists.
Hosted by broadcaster Sonia Benera, performances from the noon ceremony included that of the legendary Amanda Marshall, Quebecois superstars Garou, Rafaëlle Roy, Dawn Cumberbatch, and pianist Thompson Egbo-Egbo; who honoured the great Oscar Peterson for his 100th birthday with a resounding






After an afternoon break, the epic national party continued at Lebreton Flats at 8 p.m. with a powerful show of some of Canada’s biggest and brightest stars! Hosted by Isabelle Racicot, the show kicked off with Ottawa’s own TALK, the colourful Coeur De Pirate, and guitarists Dumas and Ivan Boivin‑Flamand. Country and folk were well represented by rising star, Josh Ross, and Acadian legend, Edith Butler. Also featured on stage were a medley of rappers such as Muzion, Waahli, and Fredz, who showed the country how they do it in Montreal, and a resounding pep talk by humoriste, Kathrine Levac, and radio personality, Jeff Douglas, who is best known for his portrayal of “Joe” in the original “I AM CANADIAN” Molson commercials.








Ending the evening was a grand medley of Canadian classics performed by the beloved Roch Voisin, returning superstar, Amanda Marshall, chanteuse légendaire, Mitsou, and closing with a resounding performance of “Life is a Highway” by the legendary Tom Cochran.



With Canada Day 2025 in the books, Ottawa’s attention will return to Lebreton Flats this week with the start of Bluesfest! Stay tuned!
