Vancouver’s Dylan Perkons Unveils New Indie-Folk Single and Video, “We Don’t Know the Ending Yet”
Vancouver’s Dylan Perkons has unveiled his new indie-folk single “We Don’t Know the Ending Yet” via Apophenia Records. Following his March 2025 release “Edge of the World”, this latest track is an introspective and at times tongue-in-cheek exploration of the push-and-pull between self-doubt and hope. Perkons shares the intention behind the song:
“We Don’t Know the Ending Yet” is a bit more self-deprecating than I would usually write. I wanted the verses to really juxtapose the hopefulness of the chorus. I like songs that make you feel multiple things at the same time. I wrote this song about feeling like giving up but also about wanting to see what comes next. Hopefully that comes through in the music.”
The song begins with a slow build, eventually leading into a groovy arrangement featuring organic percussion, pedal steel, layered harmonies, saxophone, and electric guitar. “We Don’t Know the Ending Yet” ultimately feels sonically fresh and optimistic. The recording process took place across Ontario and British Columbia, with production near Kingston, Ontario, by Jonas Bonnetta and Michael Duguay. Ryan Barwin’s pedal steel work was recorded at Hazy Grove in Hamilton, Ontario, while final touches were added by David
Vertesi in Vancouver.
The single is accompanied by a music video directed by Derek Janzen, capturing simple day-in-the-life moments, from writing a song to walking the dog or vacuuming. Perkons
shares,
“We wanted to zoom in (literally and figuratively) and capture some beauty in the more mundane moments of life.”
