It has been five years since the last time I was able to have Billy Idol in front of my lens and this felt special for me. He was my second professional approval after joining a publication – a casino show. This was a much bigger show with more production, in the home of the Edmonton Oilers, a venue I have been fortunate enough to take photos in many times now.
Opening the evening’s festivities were 80s sensation Platinum Blonde. Though I am not familiar with their catalog, they were fun, they were tight, and they looked as though they thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Catchy. I would see again.
Billy Idol at 68 years old still moves better than most 40-year-olds I know. I thought he sounded excellent, he moved around a lot and was super entertaining. Rebel Yell 2024 celebrated the album of the same name, featuring 7 of the album’s 9 tracks. Mix in a spattering of tracks spanning his career, and you have a hit-ridden show that had the entire audience singing and dancing.
Billy Idol was a staple artist of my childhood, and I enjoyed myself immensely.
